Just bought my first CT70 and thought I'd introduce myself. Name is Aaron and I live in Anchorage, AK. I've been riding dirtbikes for years and currently ride a WR450F. For mini bikes, I've had a '76 Chappy that I rode around college but it hasn't been running for a few years. I just bought a '78 Honda Express that is in great condition and I've been riding it around town a bit. A friend was just given two CT70s and after he showed them to me, I knew I wanted to find one and fix it up.
I picked up this CT70 a few weeks ago off craigslist (from a guy that lives in a plywood house/shack that looked like a castle). The past owner had started to install a 110cc 3wheeler motor but didn't get very far with the install. The frame is solid but the bike needs a lot of work.
Plans: - Fix up the bike as a run around bike at the family cabin. I'm hoping to register the bike so it's street legal, but we'll see if ITS can swing that.
- Sandblast frame/wheels and either powdercoat or paint it close to original blue
- Install Lifan 125cc motor (used from a friend)
- Replace a ton of parts that are missing and/or damaged (forks, seat, foot bracket/pegs, handlebars, headlight, taillight, and lots of small stuff)
Questions:- Is this a KO or K1? VIN is CT70-243--- and it was manufactured in 1/71. I thought it was a K0 based on the year, but the VIN makes me think its a K1?
- Is all the chinese stuff junk or decent? Specifically handlebars, front shocks with disc brakes, seat, and foot peg/bracket assemblies. I've been looking at that stuff on the trail b*ddy site. They are much cheaper than other parts so I wonder how it holds up.
- The front inner fork tubes are all rusted up and are beyond repair. Can I get new tubes or are the chinese forks a good replacement?
- Can I use XR70 parts with the Lifan motor? (CDI, Rectifier)
Thanks in advance for any info you may have!
