I used to have a VW passat and the oil temps constantly ran at 232 without any issue.

My Takegawa 124+r sees cylinder temperatures of about 188 when cruising and as high as 240 at idle. I can only assume the oil inside is cooler.

The highest temp I've recorded on a dipstick thermometer on my mini was 230 after running it 70 mph for 10 straight minutes and then getting stopped at a red light...at the light it was at 230 and I thought nothing of it.

I agree with the above post...the best thing you can do for oil is filter it and/or change it often.
