actual oil temps at operating temp should not go above 220.

Head temps can get up over 400. i had a bike that got up to 500!! If you are on it hard for a decent amount of time then it will go up only during that time and should drop right away. If it doesnt your oil isnt doing its job.

But reading oil temp is a much better way to tell when your oil is no longer doing its job efficiently.
