What's the tallest gearing a z50R with a stock 3spd w/auto-clutch & TB 88cc BBK can pull? I'm planning to motard ride small tracks up to 4/10th of a mile long. Is 17/34 too tall? Cheers, Greg |

With a stock engine, 17/34 will be too tall unless you are very, very light, and even then you'll probably need to gear for "I need to hit max rpm by the end of the straight"; i.e., as low as you can get away with for best acceleration. Might need a couple of front sprockets according to the track and switch around. I've found the 30ish range to be the practical limit on stock Honda 50 speed, hardtail or softtail, but I have weighed somewhat north of 200 for awhile now. Gearing higher to get higher speed works for me on the flat but the loss of acceleration isn't worth it; it makes the bike suck to ride unless I'm on a long straightaway with the throttle wide open, a tailwind and maybe a slight downgrade. Burritos keep on sneakin around my waistline. |

Tranny is stock 3 spd, but with a 88cc BBK. For me: Pollo con Mole...So, I'm up to an all time high of 150lbs. So, I think it will pull 16/34. Cheers, Greg Quote:

Switching over to Pollo con Mole during my race training and prep wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, at least... | |
