Re: found on e-bay,new lifan ct-70 frames with street motorcycle mso

well im still in the process of getting things sorted out for my frame. He sent me a bill of sale but all it was, was a printed out ebay reciept that he signed at the bottom. i think im going to take that in and see if they will except it. i also sent him another email requesting a hand written bill of sale. he gave me his license number to put on the back of the mso and i also have a blank mso so i could do the same as dutch. i may go back to the dmv today to get this worked out. ill let you know when i get more info but i am 99% sure this is going to work and that ill have plates very soon.

Re: found on e-bay,new lifan ct-70 frames with street motorcycle mso

I got my frame today and took the mso to the dmv. They said i need a "sales reciept" and he has to sign the back of the mso and put his dealer number on it. Im going to go back monday after i make a sales reciept and talk to someone else because im positive that he doesnt need to sign it or put his dealer number on it.

His dealer number is 5417.
If you take an mso into the dmv then you'll need a copy of a bill of sale.
I used the ebay one and it was fine.

The dealer has to fill out his part on the back of the MSO. (or you can do it)... You shouldnt have to mess with changing anything on the MSO, even though it says "dirt bike". It's classified in NADA as "MRT" which is Mini Road Trail. MSRP on these by the way is $699 for tax purposes...I'm going through the same thing with one. Even though he promised to fax me a bill of sale 3 days ago, I still havent received it.

So did they just tax you on the price of the frame or on MSRP of the bike ?

taxed me on the price of the frame, which I had the bill of sale for. They took a copy of the bill of sale too.

Re: found on e-bay,new lifan ct-70 frames with street motorcycle mso

I went back to the DMV with the ebay bill of sale and another bill of sale i made in paint with his address and business name and such, and with his dealer number. They still said he needs to sign the back of the MSO. They told me thats all i need to get it titled.

Did he sign and print his name on your guys MSO's??????

Gotcha!

Ill go back either the end of this week or this monday. Ill let you guys know what happens. They also said i only have to pay sales tax for the frame(6% of 150.00 or 9.00!!!!).

Also he sent me an extra, blank MSO. I am going to see if i can get my friends crf50 registered and titled with it. I am almost positive i can do it. Ill let you know what happens with it.

Re: found on e-bay,new lifan ct-70 frames with street motorcycle mso

Well i went back to the DMV today....

I came out with a street legal title for my z50 frame! I guess the third time's the charm. They gave me a hard time about it saying dirtbike, but i just explained the bike to them. Also i had to sign a form stating that the bike is street legal and has turn signals, lights, horn, mirrors, etc. I walked out with a new tag ready to go on the bike. Florida doesnt require insurance to register/tag a motorcycle.

Well, with all that out of the way i have a title, tag and a frame sitting in my garage. Time to get started building it!

Re: found on e-bay,new lifan ct-70 frames with street motorcycle mso

Don't mean to hi-jack here, but I have a question along the same lines.

I got a Z frame from a motorcycle salvage business. It has a VIN on it, but I am not sure how to go about getting it registered/insured because I don't have any documentation... for all I know, the bike/frame "could" have been stolen or any number of things over its long life (since 1978 ). I guess carfax could probably tell me that. What sort of documentation do I need or can I get so I can have some insurance?

If it's an old Honda frame, then you probably can't get it plated. The Z50 where never street legal from the factory. The frames we bought are Lifan frames, which are Honda copies, but the Lifans have 17 digit VIN #s and came withe the Certificate of Origin. With the CoOs we where able to get titles and plates for them.

Anything older then a 1981, 99% of the DMV's don't know squat about since they don't have a 17 digit VIN. Seriously! Z50's need to be registered as a 50cc Moped and most breeze right through the titling and registration process with a little help from its-titles.com

I wasn't planning on using it for street anyway, it would be nice to have it registered and insured though for a little piece of mind (plus that way I can ride on crown land without getting a multi thousand dollar ticket!)

Re: found on e-bay,new lifan ct-70 frames with street motorcycle mso

how's the quality on the 70 replica frames?
the z50 seems to be decent, though the welds are pretty crude, not that honda welds were great but they make the welds on my ct70 look pretty.

Have heard of paint issues, though I haven't experienced any yet with my Lifan but only had it a year.

thoughts?

how will resale be with a fake frame and all the rest honda parts?

Smile Re: found on e-bay,new lifan ct-70 frames with street motorcycle mso

i have five titled and plated bikes. all 1973 mini-trails, so much for the ya cannot get a title or plates. no, they are not for sale. ya gotta learn how to jump through the hoops for yer state. also, i have been riding two of these bikes since 73 on the street, yes fellows, in pa. these mini-trails have been street legal since 69, ya know , the ones with all the functioning lights. lots of us back then had our minis street legal and it had nothing to do with the ammount of numbers in the vin. do research for your state. in pa. we do not use a mv dept. we go to a local notary public. just remember that these bikes in most states were street legal. they had all the lights including brake lights. i have had z-50, ct-70 and sl-70,s road legal here since 1971. just check your states regulations. ya can get a title for most early bikes thru a title service. i have done this for three frames that are now legally on the street in stock configuration. take yer time and do the research. go for it.
