here are the swing arm mods.

these were cut 3/16" on the insides, and the back ear of the chain guard mount was removed. I chose to cut the swing arm mounts rather than the frame, in case I ever want to go back stock.

this was a boxed bracket I cut off the bottom half, but left the top for a chain guard.

this is the bottom of the same bracket. I don't remember what was to the left, but it was unnecessary.

this was where the xr 80 brakestay was mounted.

this is the new z brakestay. rebar comes in handy.

its ugly, but its solid.

did some more clean up, then it got stripped.

tada!

If that rebar is just welded onto the swingarm, I honestly would keep an eye on that brake stay while installed. Im pretty sure there is alot of force exerted upon it when using the rear brake.

If you drilled through the swingarm, and placed the rebar through the hole then welded the rebar, then please ignore the above.

Good Job! how much did you have to spend on this project?

its just welded to the arm, but we did a few test welds and had good penetration. I also took a couple of whacks at it with a hammer, and it didn't budge. its pretty solid.

I bought the bike for $300 from a friend. a cousin of mine gave me a new XR50 complete top end for rebuilding. he also gave me the two brothers pipe.
$45 for plastics
$25 to have an old xr600 cover installed
$58 for tires
$12 for tubes
$100 for used fast 50s fork legs and springs
$42 for fork caps, circlips, and fork guards
$42 for BBR bars and levers
$60 for sikk mx skid plate, throttle w/cable, DC pegs and mount
$35 for the xr 80 swing arm
I already had paint and grinding supplies

due to a mix-up with shocks, I have $35 in one, and will have to pay $45 for the other. so $80 on shocks.

I still need a chain, longer front brake cable and a few little things.

I should be right under $850 in it when I fire it back up.

Im done beating the **** out of my z, I have been hitting bmx jumps and its been tearing my z apart. My fast 50s skid plate would rub against the sno hog tires til i hit a big enough jump and slammed the tire into the skid plate so hard it bent up and out of the way haha. I didnt even have to cut an inch off like i was planning on. The first big bmx double I hit, overshot the **** out of saw the landing under me at about 10 feet in the air and had to throw the bike i overshot it so bad and bent the back rim. They just cant hang with crfs really their heavy too. I love the bike, but im gonna be ridin my 110 from here on out because everything is so easy on that bike and you can do so much more without breaking it.

I did most of the stuff you did with the XR80 swingarm. But I got a 197? XR75 swingarm. I cut off all the mounts except the rear brake arm mount and the chain guide mount. I kept the brake arm mount in case I ever went to CT70 wheels which use the same brake stop system as the XR75 did.

what measurements do you want? I posted the swingarm measurements before the move, but they got lost in cyber space somewhere between the servers.

this is the best "together" shot I have. I have the bars on now, but I'm still waiting on another shock (there was a mix-up with my pair), so the seat and fender are off at the moment.

and yeah, what kind of shocks are those. they look beefy!

well the most important measurements are:
1. the length from axel to axel on your swinger(center to center plz)
2. from shock mount on swinger to top of rear sprocket, to make sure the shock clears the sprocket.
3. and what size shock is yours (center to center)
what swingarm did you use?
do you have +1's?

i guess thats all i need, i have never done this b4 and i want the perfect stance so i will not compromise. another thing i like about that swingarm is that the shock mounts are almost directly over the wheel axel. this allows for bigger shock without sacrificing stance or wheelbase. the shocks i put on yoshimura from thailand. alot of 'good' parts i get from thailand and they ship relatively fast too.

ok, axle to axle is 40 inches even.
swingarm is 16 inches total length and 14 3/4 from center of the swingarm bolt to the center of the axle.
the fattest part of the shock mount is 9/16" from the edge of the sprocket, but the mount is thick, so I don't think you will have any problems with the shocks hanging over far enough to contact anything.
the shocks are 13" hole center to hole center, and 14 3/8" total length.

the swingarm is off of an xr80.

how much were your shocks, and how long are they?

I hope that answers your questions. if not, I will be out of town til next tuesday, so it'll be then before I can do anything else.
