"If you're not in a hurry, I might keep looking on ebay." Another possibility is keep an eye out here. Sometimes people sell stock pipes, and of the Z50A K3-78 pipes I've seen, what rusts out is the wide expansion box part, probably due to thin metal and more condensation forming inside. The stinger is longer-lasting. I picked up two such pipes earlier this year from PM members; one for peanuts with a stinger and heat shields, and one without a stinger and heatshields for free (I had a spare stinger and heat shields already). There's a couple stock pipes in the PM classifieds now; one for a Panda and one for a Z50R--wouldn't fit your bike exactly right, but my point is such things do show up. |

"Stinger" is technically what you call the skinny tailpipe on a two-stroke's expansion chamber. If you say "stinger" in ref. to a Honda 50 pipe on PM, people will know what you're talking about. In Honda-speak, it's probably called a "diffuser" or even worse. Possibly a "spark entrapment matrix tube" or something. Maybe just "baffle." If you just want to get the exhaust past the shock and fender for your own use, you could find a piece of tubing that's a snug fit inside there, drill a small hole in it and run a sheet-metal screw through the existing hole into the pipe and the small hole you drilled and put it in there. If you want to sell the bike with the correct exhaust, be patient and a stock pipe will invariably turn up. I got mine from a PM'er named cdoublejj, who sold his stock pipe after putting on a Minigunz or something on his '74. In your case, just keep an eye on the classifieds and on incoming "build" posts. Someone will mention tossing their rusty stock pipe for an aftermarket one, you shoot them a PM and you're in business. |

Here's my ride that I built last winter. It has 16" dual rate Works shock on the back that make it handle the bumps much better than the cheapos. It has a TB88 big bore with race head, XR80 swinger, BBR SP-5's up front and a Mini Gunz pipe. All the rest is pretty standard on all Z builds.
