Why didn't you go 3mph faster? Could have claimed to go twice the speed limit. (I've done 50 in a 25 zone.)

Of course it is. Kinda curious, roughly how much would it cost to put a motor like that together?

I've got to believe the arresting officer would be so astounded by the fact that you were able to get a bike that small up to that kind of speed that he/she would likely not give you a ticket?

They are not bad...

I think the GPX new from the crate was $575 Delivered
The Mikuni Carb was 100
Lightened flywheel...(I own a lathe)
Oil Sling (50 shipped) I don't like the cast crappy aluminum ones.
Updated clutch pack (75 for kevlar discs and HD springs) I really need to put a billet clutch basket on this.
Head and cylinder kit. $550 shipped
Oil Cooler $150 shipped (running the TB version cooler and different lines)
Updated TB CDI ($40 shipped)

The other stuff that comes into play is assembly, portwork, lightening. Also, before I ever even fired this motor, I broke it down and shimmed the transmission, installed a heavier shift actuator spring and heavier shift return spring.

Looks like the basics for this motor shake out to about $1600 but if you don't know how to do the rest of the stuff, you are looking at another $400 to have it ported good, lighten the flywheel, break the motor down and shim it, install the heavier springs, and port match the intake.

Also, exhaust plays a HUGE role in these at high RPM's. The exhaust is basically built like an FMF pipe only its a low pipe. Many of the street pipes have a very narrow neck right where it mounts into the head. While this helps with low end torque, it kills the high end power output. If I were to take my V8 pipe and swap it, it would be night and day and require a big jetting change because the neck is so small at the head. Mine is the same diameter as the casting and fits in there snugly. A motor like this doesn't need any help on low end torque...it lifts the wheel off the ground with a snap of the throttle in first and lugs just fine at 3k rpm.

Re: New Validated Speed on YX177V2. 85mph

Every year I go to Mid Ohio Vintage Days and I make it a planned stop to hit up the Mount Vernon airport to get 100 octane fuel and use it. I figure a once a year treat is good to clean any deposits on the valves and such.

I don't think it will go any faster though, as gearing will become the limiting factor at this point.

I TRULY believe, that if I could get a stroker crank in this thing, say a 63mm crank, up that bore out to 65.5mm, run a PWK28, and change my gearing to say 18/25, and run race fuel, that I'd have a shot at 100mph on this.

However, to classify a motor at 203cc as a mini motor is obviously not correct. Hell, classifing my 177 as a mini motor isn't correct either. At this point, you have a motorcycle, streetbike, or whatever...but it sure ain't a mini.

My frame may be a CT70 that came stock with a 4.5HP motor and a top speed of about 42mph...but I'm not sure I would have ever classified the CT70 as a mini. The z50..sure. But once you go beyond, say, 110, it becomes a small motorcycle.

well you said it has a lot of torq maybe a custom rear rim that will fit way smaller sprockets maybe higher Cr if you haven't hit 11.5 or if you don't mind race fuel mucher higher Crs like 14:1???

Yeah, that would go over well. "Wow! I can't believe how fast you were going! I guess I won't give you a ticket since you were going so fast."

The wheels are, believe it or not, Stock CT70 steel stamped wheels. I had them balanced up a while ago and I get no shimmy shakes at all with em. The forks are 26mm Lifans that I resprung and has the front disc brake on it. I just put on new brakes and bearings in the rear hub this morning.

As for handling...It is mostly straight line stuff...and again, we were pitched downhill on this speed run. It handles fine...running 120/90-10's front and rear Micheline Boppers on it. Going back the other way it topped at 73 so it makes a big difference.

I am SO pleased with this motor...starts up on one or two kicks every time I take it out. I have to think its pushing out a real 17 rwhp. Stock configuration on it other than a lightened flywheel and slinger, and I have it ported. Running a mikuni VM26 606 on it.
Ok Fatcaaat, how did you get the wheels balanced? What did you do to keep the brake hub stationary? Very impressive top speed! That motor must be a beast! My CT gets a bit scarey around 60-65 and I was thinking of adding some sort of steering dampner, but now with your results it could be a balance issue. I just put a 120/90/10 SL26 Pirelli up front to match the back. Hopefully this will add some stability with the extra mass.
Can't wait to see your video!

I dont' know the outsider diameter of your tires, so I can't do the calculation. However, I would surmise that an 88cc will never get you to 80mph. You need a lot more power. I'd be surprised if it reached 55.

GPS sucks it took us to a truck stop when we asked for walmart and was off by several hundred to a couple of feet a radar gun would be more accurate.
