I have my own Koi thank you...never know what the neighbors feed their man-eating piranha koi.......on the pipes...I am using two SDG speed mini cans and running dual exhaust pipes up each side...curves to follow the stamped steel body line...and the cans will be side by side Duc 996 style or Duc Monster style with tailight in center and plate below cans

cool build, i do have to say the ram air is rough looking, why do you still have the old air cleaner cover? to hide electrics? it's an original idea and i like and the dual exhaust is gonna be fing sick. can't wait to see it finished.

yeah..the RAM AIR is work in progress...the air actually is routed to go inside the stock air filter..(see earlier pics in this thread)..that way I can still use the stock carb attachment location.....electrics will all be inside the stamped frame and I hope to be able to hide most cabling....I used the PVC pipe to mock up the air intake..probably will have the finished set-up in fiberglass...I could take the easy way out and use some flexible tubing but I think that would look too cheap....i was surprised that the rear tire fit...now I wish I gone up one size wider

Looking sweet! Where'd you end up getting tubing?

Appetizing as it looks, try not to eat, or breathe, really, the powdery yellow-white residue you get when welding galvanized tubing. I've been doing it for years, and look at me. Open garage doors, powerful fans, and major cross-ventilation are good when welding that stuff! Obviously you don't want a bunch of wind currents blowing your MIG gas envelope away, but still, suck them fumes out of there before you breathe them. The bike's looking really cool. It does not in any way blend into the background. I'm chiming in on page 3, without having read page 2 yet, and this is not a criticism of your design, which looks pretty wild. It's just a discussion point, and probably one I'm going to find has already been discussed when I read the rest of the thread, but frig it: If you had the Y-joint farther back, more by the swingarm pivot and under the bike, it would allow you to play with headpipe length before the Y joint (i.e. straight back to the Y, or loop around before the Y, or do a complete loop like those Hot Lap hardtail up-pipes before the Y, etc.). You'd lose the eye-catching above-the-cases swoopy thing you've got going on, but you could still follow the line of the frame's rear section before the two cans. Plus you'd have less heat-shielding to build or could plan on keeping more skin on your lower legs. But having said that, I realize some of this is a styling exercise and you're going after a look you've visualized, and what you've done is really unique. Also if your motor is pretty mild all that jimmyin' around with the headpipe might be a waste of time to gain .0172 hp. But if you're still roughing the exhaust in, you might kick that around a little and see what it looks like before committing to a final shape. Carry on; cool project! Also, I hope you'll find an ST90 owner's group forum somewhere when you're done and post some photos, just for the wind-up value... |
