Re: carb problems, need some insight on this

1) Are you sure your fuel supply to the carb is sufficient? Float bowl's filling properly? Float or needle/seat not hanging up? Is the dying out only with clutch pulled and throttle closed, or does it crap out at any throttle opening after a certain amount of riding?

If it's a carb problem, recreating the symptoms with attention paid toward rpm range and throttle opening will help you narrow it down.

Once you're sure your fuel supply into the float bowl isn't at fault, I'd try richening the idle mixture a bit, set the idle speed again (it will change when you change the mixture; usually slower when you go richer), and see what happens...but remember where you started from so you can get back to that mixture setting if need be. Shouldn't have to change the setting too much if it seems to idle fine to you once it restarts. It can't be too far out. If that's the problem in the first place.

I'm reacting to "popping" and "hard starting" here, which make me think the idle mixture is a little lean. But these things can also indicate ignition faults, bad spark plugs, etc.
