A rain would probably work very well in that situation. Rain tires are VERY soft and designed to grip when cold. I remeber doing a track day in the rain and as the track dried I was aiming for the puddles to keep the tires cool, so I wouldn't have to change my tires back. They probably wouldn't last long though.

Does anybody have any pics of their 12's mounted up on those cyclone 2,15's rims ??? I can't stand the look of 12's on the more narrow rims . IDK , but to me the way the tires sit on more narrow rims , it looks as if they would have way too much flex and you couldn't get the correct feed back from them ?? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong please .

It's one of those things that sounds like it should work. When I was racing pocketbikes I tried a rain tire indoors. It sucked. The rubber was so soft that it grabbed every bit of dust off the floor like a glue trap. Try putting baby powder on the tires you have now if you want a simulation. The guy I sold the bike to had the same opinion.

matt thanks for the pic !! How's the side wall in relation to the tread look ? Does it look like it's a proper fit now ? As in is the side wall isn't so sucked in anymore ?
Thanx !

For comparison, that's a TT91 120/80R12 on a 1.4" rim. Worked just fine for me.

Why would you run a rear tire, that's too wide for the rim, in the front?

How does it handle? Have you run a 100/90-12 front to compare too?

I initially mounted the rear up front because I didn't have any fronts to toss on. : ) Turns out the profile is better with that larger tire on the narrow rim than a 100/90-12 on even a 1.6" rim, in my opinion. It steers a bit heavier at speed, but is also dead stable when swapping side to side at speed. I liked the handling, ran a 100/90-12 for a short period and went right back to the big boy, took a lot of the twitchyness out of the bike.

Question Hooooly cow dude !!!!!!!

I know I haven't even run one of the set ups before . But I don't see how a tire that looks way too wide for a rim will will properly handle and give you the proper input needed to ride the thing to it's full potential .
In the 1st pic of your bike Josh , I would think the thing would ride and feel like it has a very low or flat tire unless you put in like 40 psi ??
And please don't hate me for say'n this next part as I'm only think'n out loud !!!
What you describe as , ??????? "swapping side to side at speed" ?????? scares me alot !!!! And if it were me and my bike and I felt those symptoms you describe ? I would have stayed off of the thing until I could of corrected the rim to tire profile first . But hey ...., that's just me ... I would have then gone for the suspension and lastly riding stlye . I'm gonna venture to guess now with your new set up and that all of your ducks are in a row , you should now notice that very minor inputs to the bars and minor body position weight shifts are much more noticeable as the bike reacts to them much more quickly and precisely ???

Ok I'm done now .....

What I meant was we had a section of track that had you going through a left-right-left chicane at a good clip. The larger tire acted as a bit of a damper, preventing head shake through that section compared to running a smaller unit.

I haven't had an opportunity to run the new setup on a fast track yet, so I can't really compare it to the old setup. At low speed it feels great, the long swingarm makes rear slides very predictable.

120/80 TT91 on a 2.15"......

One of the few silver ones.

Cam at M&M Racing did the wheel. Got the Rim from TRT and the hub from Moosehunter.

Compared to a 100/90 TT91 f/r.

Now to me , those rims look like the proper width for the tires .
On the XR based bikes I see people are run'n 12's on them . Does it make the bike steer an dride heavy so to speak because of their rotational mass ? IDK but , I feel it looks like they are ill proportional to the bike and would make it more difficult to manuver the bike around ???? The KLX's look good with 12's but on the Xr's it just looks wrong to me ???

I've seen pics but none in person.

You can take a 100/90 to the edge on a 1.6" rim. I stayed with that combo for the front on my KLX.

As you can see the profile is quite nice.

Yeap they are sweet. Proper tread radius and side wall flex.

Dun-Stone both recommend a 2.50 rim for both the front and rear for miniGP bikes

Kinda tuff on a minitard though.

There are no "slicks in 12" at this time.

Vee Rubber might have some in the end of March.

"race tires" in 12" run from 90$-180$ a set depending on what tires and where you buy them from.............

BT601SS YCX
SAVA MC31 Soft

Theres lots of 12" tires labed now as minimotard tires.................

www.ridenow.com has the BT601 front and rear they run about 100$ plus shipping,

theres vendors here that also sell tires sometimes at a discounted price

durometer readings

heres the results from a very qualified test.

results are the average reading from 6 readings per tire.

This does mean they will stick better or worse than rival tires it only shows the softness of the compound!

Sava MC16 soft- 54
Sava MCO soft- 61
Michilin pilotsport- 65 (not the SC tire)
BT601SS YCX- 47
TT92GP- 61

soft does not mean has the best traction nor feedback.

Do you have a BT601SS YCY that you can check? The Sava soft should be the same compound........ Do you have a Thai TT91?
