That is one clean bike. Congrats on contracting the Mini-Disease. It feeds on you until it empties your wallet dry. It's a wallet eating virus.

Nice little Sherline Mill too.

Ride Report

I have put about 10 miles on it so far.

The bike runs really well and handles really well. The brakes are set up perfectly now but they are barely enough for emergency stops with the small diameter disc and single piston in the front.

I love the tires. IRC 4x10 in back and a Bridgestone Bopper 190/20 in front. It handles better than I expected and I think I will be OK with the bars and rear-sets that are on there for now.

I don't know how accurate the speedo is and I have not tried to GPS it, but I was easily able to fully peg the speedo (50 MPH?) with some more left in her. A 4 speed in this motor could potentially get to 60 with me on it but would not hold it there in a headwind. It has a 31tooth sprocket With the Super Head and 10" wheels, this bike will be silly-fast.

The bike is 90% flawless. The other 10% is in the form of things like the "faux museum display front brakes", and the hokey yet diabolically genius battery box that looks to be made from Simson Strong Ties. It also seems to need a flasher relay, and the front brake lever is just a hare too short to make the front brake light switch work correctly. At first, the front brake lever was painted shut and the powder coating on the front brakes was too thick to allow them to work properly.

This is all good because it allows me to detail and customize and make this bike even better!

Also the rear brake switch is mounted in a substandard way. Todd, Dan, Pete, - how have you mounted your rear brake light switch with your rear sets?

Shapeshifter.... My rear brake light switch is a pressure switch and is located on my rear master cylinder.(red thing on top)... That is a great looking bike and monkey mascot you have there. Congrats.

Shapeshifter. Maybe you could make a bracket like this. It just mounts up with one of the stock crankcase bolts..I think it is a Baja designs bracket.

Thanks!

Yes. I have that same bracket on my mini motard.

I will have to fabricate something.

Re: ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird

I have placed an order with MotoshopZ and eagerly await its fulfillment. I wordered the M Racing up pipe, a 140kph speedo, a Honda Monkey clutch clamshell, and replacement gears for the 5 speed tranny.

I found a couple of different mini bar end mirrors and I like them both. I have a Motrax Micro on there now an it looks and works great.

The bike really performs well with the engine that is in there now. I have been riding around town and smiling from ear to ear . I have been getting thumbs-ups and waves from lots and lots of people and that is what it is all about.

The monkey is a 12inch plush from my daughter. He is sporting an HJC mini helmet and a BAB jacket.

You may want to check the bulb wattage before replacing the flasher. If one or more per side is not what the system is designed for it will stay on solid, like my ZB. Check in the owners manual for the proper bulb.

Also, a good flick with the finger can loosen up a stuck flasher.

You bring up a valid point most don't consider. A stock Monkey R has a 10W flasher relay and 10W bulbs.

A ZB50 has a 23W flasher relay and bulbs. You can't mix the two.

If there are 10W bulbs with a ZB50 flasher relay, you'll have to either switch over to a 10W flasher relay or swap out to 23W bulbs.

Just make sure the bulbs you want are available for the turn signal housings as Honda used some strange bulbs in some of these bikes that aren't available stateside.

Re: ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird

Thanks for the info on flashers and bulbs. I have been riding the bike with a 12V 42W flasher and everything seems perfect. No bulbs have blown YET.

A cop pulled me over for not having a mirror on my mini motard. He did not give me a ticket but he oogled the bike . Anyway, the ZB will likely attract the attention of LEOs so a mirror is a must.

Here is a picture of the Motrax Micro Bar End Mirror. It is stable with no vibration and looks pretty good too.
