| ShapeShifter's Monkey R Quote:
There are far more Monkey R components than ZB50 components on this bike. Basically, everything on this bike except the engine, clock, and controls is Monkey R, so I have decided just to call it that; It's a Monkey R.

Thanks! All of my builds have had a clean "sleeper" look to them so this bike made perfect sense for my signature style. Yes, it has a Kitaco 88cc in there now and it seems to be stronger than my BrandX Minis 88cc kit I have on my CT70. - I put a Kayaba shock on the rear and a Toddegawa mount for the reservoir. The Kayaba shock will be a great "sleeper" add-on and will look swell with my white faced speedometer and the white "R" painted on the tank. ![]() I also picked up a proper battery tray and am in the middle of getting that fitted. I'll post pics when it's done, but it will be just like tmas's and Z's. Last edited by ShapeShifter; 10-15-2009 at 08:28 PM. Reason: spelling

| Toddegawa Battery Box Mod
I am going to install an M Racing pipe that fits under the tank and seat like the stock pipe. After hanging the upgraded CT70 battery tray on my bike I realized that it hits the stock pipe when hung on the "hooks" as they come out-of-the-box. I really like the perfection of this battery tray mod and I realize that other people may want to do this mod with a stock ZB pipe. So here is what I did. Here is a picture of Z's ZB. Z's bike (in addition to being the benchmark that all custom motorcycles should be judged by) uses a down pipe so his battery tray has no problem hanging on the stock hooks. ![]() I am using an up pipe and the hooks need to be completely re-bent. What I did was to carefully bend the hooks straight up flat, then re-bend them out horizontally making sure that the apex of the angle is measured so that the top leg of the new angle (the horizontal part) is at a point that raises the bottom of the tray so it does not interfere with the stock pipe. ![]() ![]() Then is is time to get medieval on it. I am super anal about symmetry so to get the new hook bends to look like they came from the factory, I use clamps, and re-bend the hooks using the frame as a mandrel. ![]() ![]() Poifect! ![]() I am breaking my own rule of NO ZIPTIES but this is temporary just so I can ride the bike while I wait for my shipment from Japan to come in. I wrapped the ziptie through the holes in the hooks and back around the vertical parts of the tray, kind of like a carabiner stay. I also use a strip of rubber under the hooks. Once the new engine and pipe are installed, and I am certain of fitment, I will tap small holes in the SIDES of the frame and bolt the tray down. ![]() After taking that last picture, I put the tank on and found that it just barely touches the positive battery terminal (ACK!). That could be disastrous, so I simply slid the tray forward about 1/2". That gives me about 3mm of clearance under the tank. I will have to wait and see if there is going to be interference with my air filter once my new intake is installed. Thanks to Z for discovering this CT70 tray idea. The above mods make it work with a stock ZB pipe. |

Is there enough length in your wiring to turn the battery 180 degrees? If the batterybox slides then it is only the negative pole which hits the tank. (If you go monkey-R you should use a battery-lesser instead of a battery |

How much room do you have below the battery to the exhaust? you might want to lower the battery a bit and do what Z suggested

Battery is fine for now. Once I install the new pipe and air filter, I will lock it's position down. I may even re-re-bend the hooks to be lower if the new pipe allows. I did some more joy riding on Sunday. The Kayaba shock is magnificent compared to stock. I had to adjust the pre-load pretty high for my weight but man, it's "like butter". Now I just have to tear the front end apart and send it in for reworking. The weather is turning here so I might as well start the tear down...... |

I just realized that Motoshop Z also sells Kayaba shocks. Had I known that I would have ordered from them and saved a few bucks on shipping. Oh well, I am still gathering rescources for these high grade items...

Your parts are shipping tomorrow or Wednesday sans the exhaust that will be another month. You unbolt the speedo from the bottom. |

Any news on the 5 speed? Looking at the photo im very surprised that where the teeth that got ripped off you can see little bubbles meaning it was poorly manufactured. Very surprising to see that from a takegawa part. Ive seen multiple lifan 4 speeds do that and look very similar to that. Although cant really help that the gears are so thin and running a 124 through such a delicate transmission.
