Re: ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird

I'd start by going through both sets of instructions Two Bros has on their website for a 5 speed install and the clutch install.

http://www.twobros.com/Cust_Service/...-1361_Inst.pdf

http://www.twobros.com/Cust_Service/...-2632_Inst.pdf

Alot of times, to switch from a semi-auto to a manual, you cut the shaft. But if you cut the shaft too short, it causes issues.

Start with that.

Re: ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird

I reviewed those and there is nothing indicating that my shift shaft is wrong.

Does anyone know the "blueprint" dimensions for the races in the cases? Maybe the races have worn out of spec, but there is no visible eveidence. One would think they would "oval" if worn badly.

The people at Fast50s built this engine.

No, I'm building a Takegawa 5 speed to go with the Superhead. The 3 speed shown above is what came with the engine when I bought it.

Tmas, does your shift shaft have some up/down play to it?

Monkey Down! Monkey Down!

A minor setback on the progress for this bike.

I crashed it.

I went on a group ride with some other local mini riders and managed to hit a patch of sand at full speed in the inside apex of a corner. I actually recovered from the fish-tail but could not recover from the recovery. After reenacting the event in my head a million times, I am going to blame the small brakes on this one. They just could not stop my mass launching around that corner, downhill, at WOT. I estimate I hit the ground going just under 50mph. The bike hit me shortly thereafter.

The good Lord was watching me AND the bike that day because both of us suffered relatively minor damage.

My ribs and shoulder will heal, but the bike will never be the same......

I took this last glam shot the morning before the ride.

I am still building the 5 speed and it is going in this bike. Stay tuned.

.

Thanks.

The bike is miraculously not bad considering the splat factor.

Affected parts:
  • Top of tank is scratched
  • Right headlight ear is bent
  • Master cylinder lid is scuffed
  • Right back step is bent
  • Tail light mount is bent
  • Exhaust tip has flesh seared on it
  • Seat post is busted off
That is really it. All of it is repairable or replaceable except the monkey mudflap. I'll have to find a new one of those somehow....

Re: ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird

To quote myself from my first build thread, "These little bikes can kill ya, but the build must go on!"

My custom made oil breather arrived!!

ow ow (That's me doing the banana dance with a torn rotator cuff)

I had the guy that fabbed it weld on some threaded inserts for different mounting options. He made it from my dimensions but it came out a little bigger than I had planned.

wow that sucks big time...
but it also gives you a chance to customize and make your bike even better!
did you have to ride the R back or did you call for someone to pick you up???
so what kind of brake setup are you planning to use now??
nice catch tank, looks like a takegawa. are you going to place under the tank??

Under the tank might be the only place it will fit. I will try to get it under the seat but I am concerned about how it will look with the new pipe. Figuring stuff like this out is the fun part.

Get Back on That Horse!

I straightened the tail light bracket and the right side rearset. I also got the headlight ears straight again but they will need to be replaced to get the bike back to perfect.

The tail light was easy but the rearset required the use of a hydraulic press. I am impressed with my work. Working with some wood blocks, steel plates, and a shop rag, it took about six different strategically placed "presses" to get it back to perfectly flat.

So I took her for a ride.

Except for the missing mud flap and the excruciating pain in my shoulder, the ride went like the bike was never crashed at all. It is really miraculous that the bike did not get damaged more. All I need is the tank paint fixed and some new headlight ears.

Shapeshifter...... The discontinued headlight stays are very hard to find, especially in good shape. If you find a pair pick me up a set too. Thanks man.

There is actually one really deep, straight scratch that goes through to metal. Again, really strange how all the other blemishes are light scratches or even buffable.

I want to save the decals because they are untouched. Yesterday I rode it over to the shop that did my yellow Z50 body work. He said they could do it and preserve the decals. This bike will be perfect again.....
