ok so look at it this way.
An engine is an airpump. It sucks in through the carb, does what it does in the combustion chamber and exits through the exhaust.
When you are Porting a head, you are changing the ability of the air going into the cylinder.
Sometimes, you can make the hole to big and you lose velocity.
To understand velocity go down and by your self a sodapop.
Take that normal sized straw that you would normally drink through and insert a garden hose or a piece of 1 inch hose and try to quench your thirst.
It sounds weird but it will give you an idea of intake suction and or velocity.

Re: what is porting

yeah i get that. it's makes a lot of sense actually. i guess that's why people add clay/resin or whatever cause it's not just about going big. this here is tricky business. no wonder "port jobs" differ so much. i need to do some readin up on this stuff

Re: what is porting

I ways taught, shortest (straight line) distance from carb too valve makes the most power.

Abrupt angles or corners are bad and slow down flow. Port diameter should be same as the valve diameter.

Is this right, I don't know, it's just what I was taught. You guys correct me if Im off track.
