Rewinding Stator

I have been running an ATV light directly out of my battery and I have been very impressed, minus having to push-start my bike when the battery runs down. I helped 2 of my friends rewind their stators on their CRF50s using some online write-ups. They say that each spoke (or whatever you guys in the know-how call it) should be wrapped 65 times (I think, its been a while). I was wondering how this is determined and if anyone knows how many would be needed for the TT-R50 using 18 gauge magnet wire. Has anyone done it before? Any info would be greatly appreciated as i dont want to screw anything up (espically electrical).
