PP Classic hop-ups

Starting small... I tore in to a spare manual clutch Classic motor, for some measuring and inspecting. Seems the mill's burdened with a heavy steel slinger. One of my 1-piece aluminum ones removes 1.3lbs from the right end of the crank for $55 shipped. It still won't be twitchy, with the e-start flywheel and one-way clutch on the left side, but will spin up a bunch quicker. LOTS more to come I'll be lightening the e-start stuff soon, maybe adding a second key in the crank, then on to bigger() things.

As an upside, the clutch setup is more like the old Xtreme 125, and new Daytona 150's, without the hokey multi-gear nonsense going on behind the basket. No wobbles, either.

All Aluminum Sling

Re: PP Classic hop-ups

Oh, and even cheaper. Heck, free 1/3 turn out on the idle fuel screw (under the front of the carb) makes idling and starting easier. It's a bit tricky to get to without a tiny screwdriver, but the up side is that if you remove the manifold from the head to get at the screw, you can trim the intake gasket that's hanging in to the port quite a bit and get rid of a restriction.

Re: PP Classic hop-ups

Next up:
Stock bore high compression piston, to replace the ashtray in there, for $75 shipped, including a new top end gasket set. Adds lots of low and mid torque, and some authority to the exhaust tone.

Creeping up the seriousness ladder, how aboot a brand-new 140cc Big Valve top end kit, complete bolt-on, for $195?
Add a "replica" Mikuni VM26, manifold and filter for $100 more!

Re: PP Classic hop-ups

I'm going to start calling you the "Sling King" because it's hard to find a post of yours where you don't mention the slingers!

1.3lbs off of a little crank is a ton! That has to help the motor rev a lot.

Well, if I had a 12" tallywhacker, I'd mention it in every thread, as a rule.

Then you'd be the Ding Dong King Kong. And instead of building motors I think you'd be in another line of work...ahem.

terry firepower,
Will the sling fit the semi-auto PPC125?
How big a deal to change out?

No, you've got a clutch hanging where the sling would go.

OK, so now that we've added 50% more power and still smooth and reliable, I'll be stepping things up shortly

Honestly, even for my robustness, the stock 125 is fine for campsites, neighborhood cruising and secondary roads. I just want to present some options for owners venturing out on to faster roads, and those with something they feel a need to overcompensate for, Dave...

Besides, it's a small niche market, so every douchebag out there won't be reproducing the options. lol

Firepower,
Good tip on that gasket. I can feel the difference in power with it replaced with one of the proper size. I'd say it was at least 1/8" under sized.

Any more freebies?

Addition:
I saw 55MPH on the speedometer yesterday hereon a long run in flat Floriduh. Lower altitude and the correct gasket helped. I'll try the 17 tooth sprocket again. Oil temp was up to 240 F.
Will the oil filter add any cooling?

Re: PP Classic hop-ups

Ok, how about 150cc, slingless stroker crank, with a trick clutch cover swap and integral oil filter, still e-start? I'm studdin' the tires and hunting Rotax's once the pond freezes

Re: PP Classic hop-ups

Here's a couple shots of one I did some work on today:

Sling swap from full-size steel to billet one-piece aluminum. Loses 23.1oz, just under a pound and a half.

I added half a set of TB HD clutch springs. Great compromise. Note neat oil splash baffle, to keep the clutch from fighting the viscosity. Free HP

140cc, big valve head. Should pull most grades a gear higher

Re: PP Classic hop-ups

This one's for sale, I suppose for around $500 outright, less as an exchange or work done on yours. I bolted it in my CL due to lack of shelf space, but the Gazelle isn't good in the 6-8" of snow in my driveway so I haven't fired it up. Gonna run a $70 VM24, for all-around power. I need to get another TB pipe, since my 4.1 is too loud for the 'hood.

Oh, yeah. I didn't look at the OTHER end of the manifold, since I'd pulled manifold and carb together for shelving, and put A VM on the 140cc unit. The carb-to-manifold spacer has a 20.5,, hole in it. Manifold and carb are roughly 25.5-26mm. Oops Guess i should'a looked there too. Might be good for another little boost.
