| 10% ethanol?
Most of the gas around here is cut with 10% ethanol. Will this cause any problems for a CT engine? I heard recently that it was not good for lawnmowers and small engines. Is there any type of fuel additive that is good for cleaning engines? I know that I probably need to open my engine up and work on it, but my mechanical skills are mediocre at best and I really dont want to screw it up. |

My ct runs for a while 1/2 - 1 mile then sputters out. (In another thread) Right now, I think it's either trash, or water in the carb . Now I'm wondering if it's the damn ethanol.

Try 1 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil for every gallon of gas in your gas can, it helps prevent the ethanol from clogging the inner carb passages (mainly the pilot jet circuit). Not running your bike for as little as 3 weeks can clog the carb right up

ethanol has been in fuel for a good amount of time, its not really a bad thing. Definately isnt goin to hurt your motor.

I doubt it's the alcohol in the fuel causing your problem. I think people blame problems on "bad gas" way too often. It's really pretty amazing what engines will run on, at least ones in mild states of tune. Engines running alcohol fuel need to be jetted a lot richer, so they use a lot more fuel. It takes something like 7:1 air to fuel to achieve stoichiometric (not lean, not rich) ratio, whereas with gasoline it's like 14 point something to 1. But 10% ethanol isn't going to screw that up noticeably. The richer jetting comes into play with larger alcohol percentages, or straight alcohol. I've never had a running problem running 10% ethanol fuel, two-stroke or four. |
