1971 Hard Tail Gas Tank

Has anyone bought this reproduction gas tank for a 1971 oval badge tank from this seller on ebay?
I know it is the round badge but he sells both and am wondering on the quality of the tank. Can't beat the price.

i bought a petcock off him, advertised it for a z50, it was for a replica, thread was 1/2" or something, too big anyway. it was shipped fairly fast i suppose

my guess is it fits one of those tanks haha

I bought one of his oval ones. It's not a bad repro. The bottom has a seem on it, that isn't found on the original tanks.

I had the tank I bought powder coated.

Shipping wasn't bad, communication was good for me, and he was good to deal with, imo.

I purchased a round badge model from him about a month ago. The tank is ok, but needs some body work to make it look right. The seam on the bottom of the tank is pretty rough. That will require some bondo. The front tank mounts were way too small to fit over the rubber mounts. I had to make some new ones. Sure the price was right, but I think next time I might get one from Classic. I like to do this sort of work, but it would have been cool if I did not have to.

He mentioned buying his petcock and adapter. $15 each.
Should I get the petcock and adapter off him or will a Honda part work?

That's a nice looking pile o' parts, Dutch! That bike will look great when you get it together.

Most of the knock-off tanks use a larger petcock than OEM. They are not the easiest part to find and generally run in the $30 range. If it were me, I'd buy it with the tank. It'll probably save some headaches down the road.

Thanks. It's just that though... just a pretty pile-o'-parts. I've had it in a box, in my attic, and it'll stay that way till I stop getting distracted by my CRF50 (just ordered an 88 kit) and other projects. I think I have 3 motors sitting around too, just waiting for my attention.
Now I started a bathroom remodel in my basement, so there goes most of my time till the new year.

Just went up to the attic, and pulled out the tank... I had to pull the gas-cap off my other bike... fit perfectly though. I honestly never checked it before tonight. Glad it fit.

I got one of these tanks and Dutch was right about the seam weld on the bottom. Not a bad tank for the $$$$. Will post some seam pics later.
I compared it to original. Pretty close. Cap fits real good.
