Me too, I would like to get rid of the Tractor Grip, IRC's on my Z50r. Curious to see what others are using on 8in rims. Gary Last edited by gbunner; 11-05-2008 at 11:39 PM. |

I have a '71 too. For years I had a 4.00 x 8 IRC trials tire on the front and a 4.00 x 8 Nanco tiller tire on the back, with tractor tread, so I could ride in mud and snow too. It worked but rolling resistance was high and the ride was harsh. This year I moved the trials tire to the rear and run lower pressure in it to soften the ride--major improvement in ride smoothness and decent improvement in acceleration and top speed on pavement--and now I have a Michelin S83 scooter tire, 3.50 x 8, on the front. For all-around street riding on a Z50 I'd give the Michelin high marks. It's smooth and feels secure. I'd consider running one on both ends except for the fact that it totally sucks in the mud. I ordered the Michelin through my local shop's Tucker-Rocky catalog and I think it cost about $30, and I believe it's got a "J" speed rating (62 mph). Not sure, but I think so. There's no 4.00 x 8 version of it that I know of but I think it does come in 4.00 x 10. |

Heidenau K75's. Either 3.5X8 and 4.00X8's. Best 8" supermoto tire available stateside.

you can use the lower fork legs, springs etc but not the upper gold part because it is too narrow for the z wheel

It's either the bushings inside the upper section or your steering head bearings are really loose/trashed. Is the movement confined to just the wheel and lower fork legs?

most likley bushings, you can replace with some HD bushings and you might want to use some stiff springs so that you don't bottom out as much

Stock replacement bushings will stop that, maybe not for as long as HD ones. Do you know how to replace the bushings? Have you had the fork legs out of the uppers to verify they're still straight? While you're thrashing the front end like that, what's going on at the back? Is your rear wheel still held on by a straight axle? Man, with mine the front end is the least of my concerns. |
