| The 1977 CT70 from Hell
Well probably not I'm just stupid. I have 5 CT70's that I'm working on at the moment. The one that is giving me all the problems is a completely rebuilt motor top and bottom. Completely new stator assembly (CHP rebuild kit.) The wiring harness in the bike is the original wiring harness off of the bike and appears to be in good shape. I'm having problems getting spark. I can take the black wire on the stator and hook it directly to the coil and get spark. However when I plug the stator into the wiring harness I cannot seem to get fire. I have no battery hooked up. I've tried with and without the key switch assembly installed. I'm plugging the coil into the plugin that has the 2 black wires coming into it and 1 plug on the end (every other plug is connected.) Am I doing everything correctly? I absoulte hate chasing ghosts! |

If I had to start guessing I'd start by putting in a battery then I'd test the ignition switch if the battery didn't solve the problem...when you put the black wire to the coil you bypass the battery and the ignition switch...so the problem is in your harness...

That black wire may travel all the way to the headlight shell for an optional kill button. make sure it's not finding ground inside the headlight or along the way.

On my '72 I chased a few electrical gremlins for awhile, then just bought the correct repop harness from TB. $30 plus shipping and all of the gremins moved out. |

hmmmmmmmmmm all of my headlight wires are just hanging there not hooked up. I might want to check that out. I'm definitely with you on the wiring harness, it's not worth spending another day chasing problems. I just want to make sure it's the harness first. |
