1992 Z50R Improvements

Hey guys, It's my first post on here, and I'm an honorary transfer from the ATC70 section on glamisdunes.com

I just picked up a fun little '92 Z50R from a buddy for $98 and some $30 dollar subwoofers that were in my Jeep.

Overall, it rides like a champ. There are a few things I would like to touch base on though.

Front forks - His little boy drove this thing face first into a tree, dont ask me how. Is there any way to replace the bottom part of the forks?

Throttle Slack - I remember on my 70 that there was a little link above the carb that allowed you to adjust the throttle cable. Does the 50 have that also?

Exhaust - Is there any cheapo chink brand exhaust on ebay that fits these things? It has a couple of holes in the pipe that make it sound like crap.

REAR SUSPENSION - It feels like its almost nonexistent. Do the rear shocks even work on these? My ass felt worse than a white guys first night in prison.

And last but not least, will these parts fit on the Z? The chain and sprockets have all gone to hell, but its a simple and cheap fix.

Anyways, Im not wanting to put more than 100 bucks into this since ALL I will be doing is riding around campus with it.

Thanks guys - DAVE

You would have to add a zero on to your budget to address all of those issues. Shocks Honda XR50 parts CRF50 parts Z50 parts CT70 XR70 CRF70 parts performance KLX110 parts DRZ110 accessories XR100 CRF70 XR70 CRF100 NOS Honda pitbike pitbikes XR50 Z50 Honda minitrail CT70 Honda NOS parts Z50 CT70, Honda trail 50 70 , Honda Z50 CRF50 QA or DrATV OPERATES HERE has cheap units for z50s. Exhaust the same two have already mentioned have some nice looking exhausts not really cheap but nice aftermarket stuff. They ^^^^^^^ should also have the chain and sprockets you are after as well. Dr Atv is going to be the cheapest you can go as far as I know and they sell decent stuff.

Re: 1992 Z50R Improvements

if the forks and tubes are bent then your best bet is to probably get a used set off of fleabay.

easiest place that i've found for some of the replacement parts you need is Honda XR50 parts CRF50 parts Z50 parts CT70 XR70 CRF70 parts performance KLX110 parts DRZ110 accessories XR100 CRF70 XR70 CRF100 NOS Honda pitbike pitbikes XR50 Z50 Honda minitrail CT70 Honda NOS parts Z50 CT70, Honda trail 50 70 , Honda Z50 CRF50 QA and DrATV OPERATES HERE it's really all in preference.

suspension on these things always leave something to be desired. you can get stock reproduction units or get some snazzy ones that'll run you some good hard earned cash.

look through a bunch of the old threads in the z50 section and it'll answer a lot of your basic questions.

welcome to the addiction by the way.

edit.. looks like rc has you covered.

Okay, I was just wanting to know, HOW MUCH rear susp travel does this thing have? Every bump I hit makes this thing feel like a rigid, and the "shocks" dont even move.

Does an XR50 exhaust fit? They have tons of those on the net, and they are only like 30 bucks.

Thanks again for all the info guys - DAVE

can't answer the travel question
but the xr50 exhaust won't work. the way it's bent it'll end up hitting the top shock mount unless you can cut the exhaust to the correct length or want it sticking out at an angle

Re: 1992 Z50R Improvements

okay, im guessing my rear springs are frozen. I can put all my weight on the rear, and the shocks dont even budge.

I adjusted the throttle finally, and the rear brakes have been adjusted too. Im probably going to put some new oil in it, and replace the fuel lines.

Man, this thing is so much fun though. Its almost as fun as my old ATC70. I just wish it had the power of a 70 or 110. If not that, I could REALLY do without the super low 1st gear.

And something else - If yall run across a ATC70 shifter, they fit perfectly on the 50. I put my old 70 shifter on, and its so much nicer to shift it.

Are there any other little cobwebs that I should address with the bike?

Re: 1992 Z50R Improvements

with my 1989 z50r i am going to extend my swinger between 1.5 - 2 inches, and run 280mm shocks, and run applied fork springs to level it out, theres many variations out there with shock and swingarm lengths just look around at other peoples and see what you like,

whack up a picture of your zedda so it can be analyzed properly,
