1st Mini Trail

I just picked up my first Mini Trail last which appears to be a 70ish QA50 k0. It is a none runner and I am going to put in a new engine, any recommendations on where to look for one? I.E. Lifan, etc.?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: 1st Mini Trail

How good can you fabricate? There is no aftermarket bolt in replacement engine available in the world for the Honda QA50. You'll have to make new motor mounts and I would recommend running a 50cc engine with no more then an 88cc Kit. Anything bigger and you'll end up eating sh!t due to the 5" wheels.

Z,
Do you know if an old pushrod CT200 motor will fit? I have a QA with the classic tranny problem and was wondering if the mounts were the same.

Thanks.

You can make anything fit, but having it bolt on is highly unlikely. Look how short the QA engine is. You can run a CRF50 engine by welding on different engine mounts (a PM member had done this modification) but you can't run a front fender unless you stretch the frame.

Re: 1st Mini Trail

How about the early CT90 pushriod engine? Is it a bolt-on?

Re: 1st Mini Trail

I had a 69 QA for a lawn decoration. It was actually sitting atop a retaining wall. Of course some toerag came along and stole it. Tis funny because I'dve given it to him/her if they would've asked.

That's usually how it goes.
