It's really too bad that Honda won't bring the Monkey here to the states in street legal form.

It would sell terrible and the dealers would want no part of ordering them unless they were special order only like the NSF100F.

My guess is less then 100 people would pony up $3500 to purchase one of these new from a dealer. And that would be right around the price point.

Keep in mind the 2004 NSR50R sold terrible, the NSF100F hardly sold, the 2004 Dream 50R sold terrible.

The 1988 ZB50 was a failure and dealers couldn't give them away, as was the 1991-1994 CT70's.

Even in Japan, it's a cult item and the dealers have a very hard time moving them and are kept around for heritage and not sales.

That's why when you go around Honda dealerships through the country bikes such as the hardtail and ct are just on display normally elevated over-head to not take up floor space.

Yeah, I know the reasons why it won't happen -- that doesn't change the fact that it would be nice. Having a new Monkeybike available, factory available parts, etc etc.

I think they would sell decent if it was around the $2k range especially with the scooter crazy recently. Oh well, we can only dream...

Pool to guess the first US eBay appearance?

Sure would be nice to see a legit HONDA on the streets.

I didn't know they were a niche market in Japan. I guess that means the UK too, huh...

The english have the SVA test to get them licensed.
(And the english slap licenses on the weirdest things, like motorized couches etc.)

YouTube - NEW MONKEY

From G-craft's website that QA pointed out in another forum:

Notice the cat converter in the wheelie-kids exhaust.

From what I've heard, though, the English also come up with some pretty finicky and hard-to-pass tests...

But it doesn't look to me like it's a 2009 model; still appears to have the old-style head and I don't see the catalytic converter on the exhaust. Odd that it's not captioned on the page...
