| 400 Miles in Two Days - YX1xxV2
Just wanted to let you guys know that my buddy Mike and I were successful in our Western Virginia scenic Skyline Drive Loop of 240 miles and the very next day we trailered the bikes up to NE PA and did another 160 miles. We ran the bikes up and down both the Shenadoah mountains and the Pocono Mountains and amazingly could pull speed up the biggest mountains sides. Those motors are amazing and on Red Rock Mountain in PA we were running in 4th gear 55mph up an 18% incline for 2 miles...basically it was 300 feet to 2440 feet in 2 miles. My buddy did manage to run off the road into some field when he couldn't negotiate a turn on the CT that I easily did on the motard at 2x the speed limit (25mph) on a back road and he almost lost it going through a covered bridge when the front end came off the ground when he cranked on it in 3rd gear. I actually caught air through the same covered bridge. The CT70 is running a GPX177V2 with Mikuni carb...no porting. The Pitster pro motard ran a GPX165V2 with China carb and porting. We experienced only one issue...the kickstand spring vibrated and broke on the pitster...so we took the kickstand off and ran the rest of the weekend without it. We averaged approximately 70mpg in both bikes cruising mostly between 50 and 55mph. On one stretch, I had the motard speedo at 81mph on a slight downhill and he had the CT70 pulling away from me. Some other interesting notes: 1. Everyone stops whatever they are doing and stares at you when you are riding these. In town, on back roads, the fishermen, everyone. 2. Everytime you stop for fuel, people ask you a million questions...I had one of those CT70's as a kid...that's street legal? 3. We were only passed by 2 cars during the entire 400 miles we covered. 4. Yes you can scrape the pegs on a CT70 on turns. 5. They run in the pouring rain just fine provided you don't get the filters wet. 6. You can make a girl jump from surprise when she's not paying attention and you start it because they are so loud. 7. This YX177V2 motor makes my Taky 124+r seem like I wasted my money. 8. I cannot wipe the silly smile off my face 24 hours later... |

[quote=fatcaaat;1284089] 4. Yes you can scrape the pegs on a CT70 on turns. [quote] I know that for a fact!!! Well at least on my Lifan ct clone I can. I road with my buddy on some back roads a few weeks ago. he has a little rebel. At night he said I was throwing sparks in front of him around the tight turns. Little bikes are great! I am glad you were able to get your ride in! |

| Re: 400 Miles in Two Days - YX1xxV2 We get a couple of weekends per year to get together and ride and they are ok with that. I'm building another CT70 so my wife can actually join us on some of the milder rides. BTW the x4m is not butt friendly after about 50 miles. |

Did you guys go over 33? I have family that lives in Harrisonburg and whenever we go and visit, I have wondered how it would be to ride a bike over the mountain. I think it would be even more fun on a mini!!!!

How many did you get from the big bikes?Sounds like an adventure never to forget. That's a ton of miles....I did 150 one day and I was enough for me! ...and that was on a nice cushy Gorilla seat. Last edited by shw911; 05-04-2009 at 12:06 PM. |

Sounds like an awesome ride, I wouldn't say the tak 124 is a waste of money it just isn't suited to rural road riding.

| Re: 400 Miles in Two Days - YX1xxV2 We started out in Front Royal, drove 678 down to 675 and up over the mountain. Then come out on 211 and over the other mountain for lunch. Back over and down 340 to elkton. 33E out to Skyline and back to Front Royal. We did some odds and ends around on backroads and switchbacks to get the 240 miles. These bikes as setup had no problem whatsoever going up over the mountains. 33E actually starts about 300ft and climbs to 3400 feet to the drive but I don't know in how many miles. 4th gear all the way 50-55mph no lugging...The only issue I had was that the pre-filter got some water on it and was bogging a little up the hill...I took the prefilter off and the problem went away. I need to get some of those bag covers that are water proof but don't restrict. BTW...the foam pod filters are also very restrictive compared to my K&N cone filters.

| Re: 400 Miles in Two Days - YX1xxV2 To be honest we didn't see too many bikes out. On Friday it rained...so we were in the rain for the entire first half of the ride basically until we got on Skyline. I'd say for the 75 miles on Skyline, we only saw 7 other cars the whole way. I don't blame anyone for not riding on Friday...I was making a sharp left on the CT and the front slid out a little...had me nervous for a while there. On Saturday, we didn't see too many bikes either up in PA. It rained all night but by the time we got on the bikes around 1pm it was pretty clear but cool. I'd say 50/50 on riders giving us waves or thumbs up. |

That run through New Market Gap on 211 is pretty cool. Out 33 from Harrisonburg and into the West Virginia mountains thru the Nat'l Forest is da nutz!

Don't get me wrong...my taky 124 is in another CT70 and it is great...but you can't run it below 4500 rpms or it lugs and I'm guessing it maxes out about 14hp. This YX must have 17.5-18 or so. Sure, the taky shifts super smooth and doesn't vibrate a bit but it is not nearly as powerful. | |
