yea you will feel a little bit of power but the stock exhaust is very restrictive. cut the baffle out, it will be louder but you will increase your performance better then a stock baffled exhaust.

I run an Takegawa 88 kit w/ the stock 50 head on my Z50. I've also ran a Trail bikes 88 kit w/ the race head. Both kits have been run through the stock Z50 exhaust. It's nice and quiet and both engines run well and make good power. |

Vegatron, Do you think the race head on the TB88 kit makes a big difference? Is it worth the extra $165? My other question is what is the difference between the K0 to '78 engines and the 80's to 90's engines? There's such a difference in price for the 88cc kits for the two. |

The later model engine had a slightly different bore/stroke configuration, and also had CDI ignition and a roller bearing cam. Slide - please don't hack up your stock exhaust. Quiet is the new loud. Congrats on the purchase. I sold a '78 a couple of months ago. |

Same B&S, rod went from 91mm to 94mm and changed the pin height.

So the pin on the newer motors is more towards the dome of the piston than the old one. Being pushed from the "business end" of the piston would probably make the top of the piston move less than pushing from the bottom. And I don't mean move less up and down but from one side of the cylinder to the other. Thanks for the info. |

The major differences between old and new motors. As far as I know. Rod length is one and ignition. Points for the old and cdi for the newer. Older motors have a manual cam chain adjustment also. | |

Like Slide1in i'm going to go with the 88cc kit with the stock exhaust. On my '76 I can remove what looks to be a spark arrestor from the muffler. It does make it noisier but maybe it will work o.k. with the 88. And then again, for cruising around the yard maybe the increased noise will piss off the neighbors. This should make for a worthwhile experiment. |

Thanks for all the help, I may even check out that 75cc kit from kitaco. Have any of you fellas ever try the pivot works swingarm bearing kit for the honda 50's 73-current? Looks like a nice way to go thanks again.

I did the TB RH 88 kit on my XR50 and ran the stock exhaust for a while. All I changed was I cut off the spark arrester. It worked really well and was quiet.I then switched to Fast Minis Speed exhaust and if you ask me it was a waste of money.Made it really loud and only gained a little bit of low end.The mid and top end were good with the stock stuff.
