| 79 throttle cable too short and stripped screw, help
I have a 79 Z50R that had a different throttle cable than the 80-85's. Its not adjustable other than screwing it in and out of the kill switch. I put the new slide and other things from my 19mm carb for my lifan 110 and it was too short. The bike idles too high and when I kick it into gear it takes off on me. I have an XR50 cable laying around. Will this fit the 79 kill switch and will it be long enough with the adjustments? It appears it will be but its not mounted. so I don't know. One of the screws to take off the kill switch so I can access the throttle cable mount is stripped. Should I just drill it out? I don't want to ruin the kill switch. |

I don't want to ruin the kill switch.[/quote] Are you talking about the philips head is stripped, or the threads? I'm guessing the philips head. If it's so stripped even an impact driver won't move it, see if you can get a vise-grips clamped on the screw head. That's not a highly-torqued down fastener there; if you can get it to rotate a couple of degrees with the vise-grips it should be pretty easy to take out. Surely you could drill through the head and get the throttle apart, but then how are you going to get the threaded part of the screw out of the other half of the throttle/kill switch assembly, given that it's cast from margarine? See if you can clamp onto that screw head, and if you can't see if you can hacksaw a slot across it and make a last-ditch try with a flat-blade screwdriver. |
