Hi, I picked up a TB 88cc Big bore kit for my 79' Honda Z50R. No camshaft, just bore/ 20mm carb. Everything went smooth until the cam sprocket needed to be lined up. I cant seem to get enough chain slack to line the cam sprocket up onto the camshaft. It's off by 1/8" or less from fitting onto the camshaft. What is it that I need too do? This is my first motor build. So, I NEEEED HELPP!! Thank you!!! Last edited by dirttrackin280h; 11-28-2007 at 11:09 AM. |

I had this problem while installing a 146cc kit on a GPX and I ended up using the wrong gaskets. Its crazy but a gasket thats a little to think will make it imposible to install the cam chain. Im not sure if thats what happed with your setup but maybe so. Mike |

one of the easiest ways to get it to fit is to line up one bolt and screw it in. Then rotate the motor to move the chain and line up the rest of the screws as the cam and sprocket line up letting the engine do all the work and the one screw you have in place be your pivot. does that make any sense?

I bet that your chain adjuster is too tight. Open up the nut on the bottom of the case and pull out the spring. Then use philips driver to pry a little on the cam gear to get the gear over the cam gear notch. SHould be like butter after that.

He is right. Chances are the cam tensioner is tight. Remove the 14mm head bolt under the engine. Loosen the 12mm nut on the left side of the engine near the shift shaft and back out the flat screw a little. Then back out the adjuster on the bottom that was under the 14mm nut. It would be a lot easier on the CRF because you take out the 14mm nut and out pops a spring and the cam chain is loose. But you have the old engine like me so you have to loosen half a dozen screws to get the cam chain loose. | |

Thanks for the help guys! Once again you save the day! I did as stated above, by screwing in 1 bolt at a time, etc. etc.. Got the motor started, but was revving very high. I believe I either have an air leak (will play with that tomarrow in the day light) or I have to play with the carb. settings. Thanks again for the help!!! |
