I have a 1983 Z50R Honda. It is acting up a bit. When you shift up it will sometimes drop back down to the previous gear. Sometimes it will stay in that gear and sometimes, will go back to your selected gear. Does it more often when you shift softly. I THINK it can start in gear, but haven't tried in a while. Clutch doesn't seem to slip when I ride it. Can the clutch be adjusted? I unfortunately don't have a manual. Anyone else have this problem? Let me know. I can give any other info that is needed, just tell me what you need to know. Thanks! |

I wish I still had a link to the online manual I found. But I deleted it when I got my hard copy. But the clutch can be adjusted. On the right side of the engine, there is a nut and a notched bolt for a flat head screwdriver. Loosen the locknut with a 14 mm box wrench. It needs to be a box wrench or a open end so you can access the adjusting bolt. Turn the adjusting bolt IN a full turn, then turn it out until you feel ANY resistance. Then STOP. Then turn the adjusting bolt in 1/8 to 1/4 turns and tighten the jam nut down while still holding the adjusting bolt to keep it from spinning. That should help you. If that doesn't work, you'll need to pull the right cover and look at the shift mechanism.

arlindsay1992- If you ever find that link please let me know! I'd appreciate that. tmas- a picture is worth 1000 words! SprNtrl- I appreciate the try! That was nice of you. Thanks a lot guys, I am impressed by the help. Now what is the 2 sided mechanism by the clutch adjuster? Right above the "s-t-i-n-g" part of the word adjusting. Some day when I get some extra cash I will definitely get a manual, hopefully soon. I'd like to rebuild. I'm sure I could do it w/o one, but why chance it and why not make it easier? Thanks again! |

tmas ![]() I took an inside pic for you. To me it looks like a oil passageway to lubricate the clutch. tmas | |

Hmm. Sounds logical. You didn't have to go through the trouble, but thank you. I'll adjust my clutch tomorrow, if I get time. Does warm or cold matter? I guess I'll find out. Thanks again tmas.

250x_project, I have the '79 - '82 Z50R manual as a .pdf file. It's about 100 pages in length. I can't think of any changes on the '83 model which would be different than what's covered in my manual. PM me with your name and address - It would be my pleasure to burn a copy onto a CD and mail it to you. Resto |

The two sided thing is a plugged up hole from where they drilled the oil passage. They just drilled two holes because it's easier than drilling a curved hole. And tmas, it's interesting that in the last picture with the shift shaft in it, the bike is obviously Honda since it's a Honda manual, but look at the shifter. It has a longer mount to fit on the shift shaft. Does anyone know why? Is the shift shaft the same as on the points motors? Did early 1988 Z50Rs have the short shaft and an extended shifter mount? I'm just wondering because my 1988 Z50R had a longer shaft and the same shifter.
