| 86 Z50R carb cleaning/jet question
Hi there, This is my first post/question on the forum. I am cleaning the carb on a 86 Z50R and can't seem to get anything to go through the idle jet. This is the little brass tube that is less than 1/8 inch that is pressed into the main body of the carb. I have soaked and messed with this thing for hours and have had not been able to get any thing to go through it. I even have a proper ket cleaning tool and I am beginning to think that there is NO hole in this brass tube. Can someone tell me how to get this thing opened up. As a side note, bike runs OK, but there is no effect on idle speed when I adjust the idle mixture screw throughout its entire range. I have to assume the jet I am messing with is clogged. Someone please comment. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Bibb T. Gault San Antonio,Tx 86 Z50R 74 Z50A-K5 81 CT-110 85 Ch250 Elite Scooter |

Sounds that way to me. I have no experience with these carbs, but I've messed with webers and dellortos. I am pretty sure the should be a way to flow gas/air throught it. I recently had a weber with one hole on the emulsion tube. turns out the other 2 were just blocked with corrosion. do you have a srong piece of wire to put through it?

Not recommended to use wire to clean them out. The brass is very soft and it can enlarge the hole. But if you have tried everything be gental!

Just did this myself, not sure what you are using but this is how i did it. I have carb dip BUT this time i listened to a friend that has a small engine repair shop and used Purple power. Striped it, Soaked it in the purple power for about 12hrs (over night) then rinsed it out good with warm water and used compressed air to blow out all the holes and gently used a fine wire to clean jets and runs great. Be sure after you take out the main jet that you push out the emulsion tube that it screws into from the top and clean in there and the holes in the tube. GL |
