| 88-99 plastic tanks
With the fact that the stock metal tanks are getting rusty, dented, scratched, why doesn't some one make a high quality plastic tank for these bikes?Maybe talking to the vendors/after market companies that visit this site.Seems to me that the fact that Honda has discontinued the tanks for these bikes you could make a killing.Start up would be a little pricey, but in the long run you would make a killing as the bikes get older and mini bike geeks like us would jump all over them.Especially as the bikes (and we) get older.Just an observation. If I had the dough I'd get right on it.

Yes, clark makes one. My friend has one on his 1993 z50r. It has got the @#$& beat out of it and it is still in very good shape, just a little yellowed. It is a very tough tank.

Here Pat.. Clarke Manufacturing: Honda Misc Clarke makes great tanks, but you are limited to one fugly threaded gas cap, and their products are not by any means cheap. (Almost as expensive as OEM) I have a softy Z50 style tank and it's super thick. |

I know DRATV has them.I emailed them to find out what brand they are.Probably Chinese.I might order one any way.I just can't see paying huge dough for factory Honda tank that will dent, scratch, and rust.I wish they were like XR/CRF50 tanks that you can buy for like $20.00 all day long. The Clarke looks good but spendy.I guess I'll figure it out sooner or later.Wurms, what's a "softy"?Do you mean plastic?Or is that a brand?

The biggest bummer is that the factory Honda tank was only $129.95,but they don't make them any more.I'd gladly dump that kind of dough on a brand new tank.

I thinks the point of having a metal tank z50 is not to beat the snot out of them its the nostalgia of haveing a classic. my 2 cents |

My Mood: | Re: 88-99 plastic tanks The new tanks from Honda are a lot more than $129...And you can still get quite a few years, not the 99 but others.

Don't get me wrong,I like the metal tanks. They're just getting hard to find and they are expensive. That's why I'd like to get a nice after market plastic one.Won't have worry about rust, dents, etc.I called Honda with the part number for the tank and they said it was $129.99,but that they are discontinued. If they had a few I'd of bought them all for that price.

98 and earlier are available but they get progressively more expensive as you count back the years. (ie.- 98=$200+, 96=$300+, etc..) Food for thought: The 99 marks (tank decals) are currently still available! Dessert for thought: Shop around to save BIG bucks. (ie.- Bike Bandit, Discount Honda Parts, Northeast Vintage Cycle, etc..) | |

I have one tank that I got on Egay that has been resealed. The sealant is cracking and I can see rust.I got the thing for next to nothing, but it looks unusable to me.I emailed the seller but have not heard back from him yet.Oh well, live and learn I guess.I'll end up ordering a plastic one from DRATV I guess.
