88 Bore Kit Question!

Good new! I recruited 2 other fools into this rediculously addictive hobby! Our small gang consists 1973 z50, 1974 z50, 1975 ct70, and a 1973 ct70.

We bought the 1974 z50 in fair condition. We're planning for the complete rebuild this winter. So we're in the planning stages now. We our planning on using a 88cc bore kit, but we have some questions:

1. Are there any differences in quality among the manufactures of these kits?

2. What is the difference between the typical bore kits and the "race" bore kits? The cam?

3. And finally, which kit is highly recommended?

Any advice (or suggestions) on this bore kit project would be much appreciated.

Thanks...

Re: 88 Bore Kit Question!

I would have to recommend the TB 88cc Race Head kit as the head makes a ton of difference, especially on the top! TBolt USA, LLC » TB Parts » CRF50 XR50 88-06 » Trail Bikes Race Head, 88cc Bore & 20mm Carb Kit
The regular TB 88cc kit with carb for the stock head is great for guys looking to keep the low to mid range power as it has gobs of torque but the RH really hits once spun up. The link I posted is for the 88cc RH for newer models but Vince will get you hooked up with the right parts for each of your specific year/model bikes.

I would also say the TB kits are of excellent quality and priced right and they come complete with no need to hunt down anything else. 1 stop shopping!

Vince from T-Bolt TBolt USA - Pit Bikes, Pitster Pro, OGM, G2 Moto, Honda 50 Engines is you man for sure as he knows these bikes inside and out and has great pricing and fast shipping. You cant go wrong with the "Pit Bike Master"

Also a member on here "dirtbkr188" is as knowledgeable as they get when it comes to the older CT's and Z's so hit him up with a PM with any questions you may have. He will not steer you wrong and is a great guy always willing to share his infinite knowledge. Although maybe it's just his age!

Re: 88 Bore Kit Question!

I would say the Trail Bikes 88cc kit with race head and carb is the way to go. Most of the more expensive companies don't even sell BBK's for the older 6v bikes. DRATV and TB are basically your only choices.

Who uses Forged pistons? Takegawa sells them as racing replacements for $300+ for the piston, but nobody I know of includes forged pistons in their bore kits.

Re: 88 Bore Kit Question!

Porwoll and Wiseco both do if I'm not mistaken. Kitaco does on their XR100 DOHC kit. I always thought Takegawa did on some of their kits, but I guess they just have real clean cast pistons.
