91 Honda z50

I have a chance to trade a old bike that was made up of parts of different bikes for a 91 Honda z50. The 91 needs a carb, exhaust, paint, the tank leaks, it has a new pistion and rings, rear fender is cracked, seat is torn.

I have a 83 z50 that i ride and i am realy happy with it ..... i just wanted to know how the 91 will compair to the 83 ?

i did noticed that the intake of the 91 is so small comparied to the 1983 motor.....

how hard is the tank to fix or how much do they go for used ?

let me know your thoughts

Re: 91 Honda z50

Frames are the same except for body mounts so it will handle exactly the same. the 83 is a three down and the 91 is a three up. 91 has CDI whereas 83 has points. Intake is smaller on the newer one because they redesigned it and it's got tiny little valves like the new CRF50's. Somehow they managed to make it so there was no noticeable loss in power. The newer ones aren't really an upgrade unless you like CDI or a three up tranny. So unless you like the body, CDI, or three up, there is nothing better or worse about the newer ones.

Re: 91 Honda z50

Good luck on finding an exhaust and fender. Finding those 2 parts in decent condition will probably cost you as much as the bike itself.

CDI is nice because it will crank over every time. Points are nice because they are simple as crap to work on IF something goes out.

Personally, stick with the old Z if the new one needs alot of work.

Re: 91 Honda z50

I do not have a manifold for the 91, will the older style work ?

As for the tank has anyone used Permatex 09101 Fuel Tank Repair Kit?
