| '91 z50r no spark
ok guys, i'm new here so bear with me. I recently bought a 91 z50 for 50 bucks and the guy said it needed a new coil, so i bought a cheap universal coil and it still wont fire. Then, i took the stator cover off and cleaned all the contact points and still no fire. I took the cdi off and put it on another bike to see if it was the problem and it ran fine on the other bike. so thats obviously not the problem. and of course i put a new plug in it. Do you think the stator may just be bad?

the 91 z50r does not have points. Its CDI. Check the #s on the motor. If you have points, you have an older motor on your bike which is probably 6v. The '91 motor is 12v. Tha could explain why you dont have spark.

No, i know its CDI. I just sanded and cleaned inside the flywheel and the stator because they were dirty and rusty. it looked like it had sat outside without the stator cover on it or something.

You tried grounding the spark plug to the head and no spark? If everything else worked on the other bike then you may have a bad stator. Double check your connections on your stator. Make sure nothing is loose.

Yeah i tried all that. The kill switch is messed up, but if i just left the 2 wires that go to it unplugged it should get fire, since it just grounds it out. correct? also i may break out the multimeter and check the 2 wires coming out of the stator. Do you have any idea what kind of reading i should get?

I have a 1998 Z50R Stator assembly and flywheel that I guarantee to work and will let it go for cheap. Drop me an email. Dan@honda50.com |

I think the 2 killswitch wires need to be twisted together to get fire. Try that

Not 100% sure but if it has a neutral safety cut off the contact may be bad, try grounding the neutral safety wire to get a spark. That was the problem with one of the trx70' I'm working on. Sory dont know the color of the wire off hand.
