| Almost Done
Aloha All, I'm almost done restoring my 1970 Z50Z starts and pulls quite well but the battery is not getting charged and there is no power going to the lights.Take a look at the pictures and let me know what everyone thinks. Oh, and any help with my electrical problem would greatly be appreciated. Attachment 6750 Attachment 6751 Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to make the pictures bigger. Once I do I can post more. |

Nice job. RE the charging problem, there are two stator coils on that bike, one powers the ignition, the other powers the rest of the bike. See if you've got ac on it's output and chase from there.

WOW BIG BEFORE AND AFTER DIFFERENCE! NICE JOB! Did you use flat black paint on the tank and side panels or is it just not that shiny? |

It looks like it had a few small rust spots before you got into it. What is that kickstand off of? Is it a CT70 stand?

Thanks for all the positive comments.... Kurlon, how do I check which coil powers the ignition and which one powers the rest of the electrical parts? The bike starts so the ignition coil must be ok...? I have ordered a new flywheeel and rectifier in hopes of getting the power to the lights. I'll let you know once I get the parts and install them. d0n, You have some really good eyes! I did paint the tank and side panel with different paint which didn't come out as shiny has the rest of the bike. qwoke-q, that is the original center stand that came with the bike. |

You shouldn't need a new flywheel, as it's generating a charge in the exciter coil and triggering the cdi, as your bike starts and runs. | |
