any other carbs that fit????

This is the carb i have it barely has any more room on top under the tank

eBay Motors: 22MM CARBURETOR HONDA CRF50 XR50 CRF XR CARB ATV CA05 (item 380082049259 end time Mar-15-09 20:49:27 PDT)

This link tells you what jetts are in it. I'm betting this chinky dink carb is robbing some hp. I'm getting a new ahp high comp piston and tb china engine performance cam. So maybe that might help tell what jetts or carb&jetts i need?

Honda Trail Bikes

i was wondering how much taller a carb like this is compared to the one i have?

eBay Motors: 24MM MIKUNI CARBURETOR HONDA CRF50 XR50 CRF XR 50 CARB (item 200268583504 end time Mar-26-09 19:49:43 PDT)

or perhaps a vm 26 would fit? The one good bit is that the throttle cable fits right up between the tank and frame.

Re: any other carbs that fit????

Seeing as it's the mirror image of a Keihin PC18, I'll try the jets out of it in my Sheng Way 20mm (recently acquired a Lifan 125 w Sheng Way) and let you know. BTW, how did you get around the petcock?

Re: any other carbs that fit????

i got it from my dad's brass fitting collection he has a crap load in this old ceramic pan. i just dropped the stock fuel filter down on the pet cock mount [threads] like you would normally and screwed on the fitting.

Re: any other carbs that fit????

Well, the PC18 accepts the jets from the Sheng Way & vice versa. For whatever reason, the throttle valve drops in as well? I thought the "18mm" meant the throttle valve diameter? Regardless, the PC18 appears to share almost every component with the Sheng Way, exception is the position of the fuel inlet.

What did you do for a fuel valve?

Re: any other carbs that fit????

The Mikuni on the ebay link you posted is the bolt on type what is known as a 'pitbike carb' here in UK, I have had one, and do not rate them at all.

If I remember correctly they are actually 22mm although they're commonly sold as 24mm and 26mm on ebay.

The jet needles are quite blunt, not very well tapered, I was also told there aren't any other needles availble for them.

Whilst you can get them running OK, they are not a patch on the true push-fit type VM24 or 26mm.

A long offset manifold would help with your carb/tank clearance issues, as the type you're using is a taller CRF type inlet, see pic.

Re: any other carbs that fit????

For the fuel valve you you use hope ie you hope the fuel carb doesn't start over flowing and flooding. for rust treatment on the tank i dabbed the pin holes with epoxy. kinda red neck but it's a tight fit so i did what couild with what i had. i don't know if the lower intake will work unless the carb is mounted sticking clear out away from the tank cause you can see the is not much room under the carb either.

Re: any other carbs that fit????

Probably chp or motoshop z. I run that Mikuni carb on my '97 if you need any measurements. It is pretty big and I don't think it would fit well on a '72-'78. I'm thinking the longer the manifold, the better it will fit. I would spend the extra cash for a BBR or G-Craft rotating intake manifold with a flat slide carb if you are going to upgrade. Expect to spend some money if you go this route.

Re: any other carbs that fit????

there should be a way to mount a bigger carb under the tank if need be it maybe i'll see if i can't have have custom intake made out of steel tubing or something. i wonder if a yoshimura would fit? ot vm 26 or if i could just get a 24.

Re: any other carbs that fit????

It's the camera that makes it looks like that. if the carb i have is really 18mm then the 22 mikuni would add some power then? i'm leaning towards the the 22 but is it really any bigger? it's not a china carb so hopefully it will runner better.
