anyone know anything about a honda QR50?

came accross a 10"x 1.5 front wheel from a QR 50 mini moto at salvage site online for a good price along with a few other parts. Not sure how close they are to z50's i've never heard of it before.

ya seems like the front wheel could be useable i mean i don't know how strong it would be for hard trail riding and jumping.

Re: anyone know anything about a honda QR50?

I've never seen one in real life, but from looking at pictures it appears that the whole drivetrain is the same as the NC50 Express "no-ped." Since the Express had 14" wheels and could go about 25-28 mph, the internal reduction ratio might be different in the QR...not sure. But if I'm right, what's inside that drive case will be a centrifugal slipper clutch running in an oil bath, with a small roller chain driving an intermediate shaft, and a final gear-reduction drive to the rear axle. From memory, the old Express drivetrain I've got has about a 14:1 overall reduction ratio.

These look like neat little bikes to me. It's a tough little drive unit; I wonder why they didn't last in this country?

Well, that's one opinion, but apparently not the opinion of the five squizzillion parents who've bought PW50s and JR50s and various Italjets for their kids over the years. Back when the QR was made, it should have been pretty good competition for a PW or JR, and it certainly looked pretty sharp. I'd like to know why it didn't make it but the PW and JR did.

Sorry if my question 'jacked the thread. I know someone who has a Spree scooter, though, and if it would help I could take a photo of one of its wheels and post it here for comparison to the QR wheel...let me know.

They are meant for kids who are brand new to off roading. Most 6 year olds can barely stay focused on not falling over - they don't have enough memory capacity to know when to shift.

Either that, or you can be like every one of my friends who were never taught how to ride properly. They will be cruising in 4th or 5th gear, stop, and then beat the **** out of the clutch and engine trying to get back up to speed....... all while in 5th gear.

It's mainly for simplicity, but the longevity of them is a trade-off.

I would try the Honda dealer. They were available in Canada and the UK. Check old thread

Re: anyone know anything about a honda QR50?

Hit up dirtbkr188; he might be able to check interchangeability for you: I'm pretty convinced that a QR drivetrain is lifted from the Honda NC50 Expess no-ped, but with different exhaust.

If he or someone else is able to verify that, I've got an Express parts engine with a good magneto, ignition coil, crank, top end, etc. I'd love to find it--or some of it--a home and would not be asking much for it. I don't have access to or knowledge of Honda parts microfiche stuff though. Let me know what you come up with and PM me if you're interested.

Re: anyone know anything about a honda QR50?

I've got one of these qr50's, a 1983 that used to work well, but is now in need of new forks due to rusting.
No idea so far as to where I can get some...
