anyone with shredder/snow hog tires blow out?

In my particular application, they will not work (72 Z50) I know some of you have them installed, but what can I say, Honda QC wasn't to hott in the early 70's.... so i'm not using them but regardless I emailed the manufacturer and they told me they have a 10mph max speed rating on them, which sure as hell isn't very good, so i'm just letting people know that have them to be careful with them....

well they're made for snowblowers so you gotta know they aren't rated for high speeds. That doesn't mean you can't go 40mph on them. I have. Because the knobs are so soft it makes for an interesting ride at those speeds

PS - they will work. but you have to make them fit. They're generally not a bolt on deal. I told you how to do it in your original post.

Sure you did, and as I stated they won't work on my bike, like I told you as well. with a 76 link chain pulled so tight the wheel won't spin the tire is on the swingarm, so that doesn't work. the next size chain, a 78 link, i can pull it all the way back in the adjusters as far as it will go, and there is still way too much slop in it, there is no inbetween, and i'm not changing the stock gearing, so no, in my case, they will not fit. I've seen other bikes with them as well that seem to work fine, but they won't on mine.

Are you guys talking about these?

Or these?

I'd like to know because I'm looking into buying the lower ones. The tires with the round corners.

I have the ones in the lower pics and I can't get them to work on my particular bike, although I know it is possible. I have a pair of new IRC tractor grip tires (oem) laying around i'm prob. going to be installing instead. Let me know if you want them!

Those are the same tread pattern as mine with a slight difference but mine are not Carlisle brand and I dont remember what the brand name is rite at this moment.
The ones that I recomended above go rite on the stock Z50 rim with no problem but they are typically extremely hard to get off!!!
They are also a very good compound they last a long time on the back that is always spinnig and shooting a rooster tail. It will be years before the front needs to be replaced. it has allready been almost a year now and there is no noticeable wear on the front and I have replaced the rear once just a few weeks ago and it was only about half worn.

Just get an XR75 swingarm. You won't have any more clearance issues.

mini-biker,

Is it possible that you have too much air in the tires, making them round, and giving you even less space for chain adjustment? I overinflated the first set that I tried to mount, and, after letting some air out to make the tire more square, I found that I had over 1" of adjustment left, before runout. Not that sprocket size would matter, but I run a 15T front on all my Zs, to make 1st gear a little more usable.

Just a thought...

Re: anyone with shredder/snow hog tires blow out?

wal-mart can special order the snow-hogs for about $20 each and it takes them a week to come in. I ended up going after my tractor grips with a side-grinder and popped the bead wire. I worked in a tire shop in college, and the 50 was worse than anything I ever did in that shop.
