| Been a while,,but i build a 4 1/2 oer swinger for my 72 Z rat rod today
I'm sure most of you seen my metallic green 72 Z with the lifan BVH motor bored to 146cc and a CR of 13.5:1... The last thing added was a crower cam and a 25mm carb and boy did she scream.. you couldn't even keep the tires on the ground in any of the 4 gears. Well, today i hacked and extended a stock swinger using some 4130 chro-moly. It's in it's unpainted state and i mainly built it to utilize the cool looking "StOhlins shocks" (design "stolen from ohlins" LOL ) I still have to build a new chain, extend the brake arm and paint the swinger but here's a pic that you might like to see. First there's the "before" but after being re-done pic.. then i go into the modded sminger pics along with the new shocks and the addition of a KTM 65 muffler ( it had an open header on it before and sounded like a harley :LOL ) I"m hoping to get it painted this coming week as i have the room and plenty of that color left over, I guess we'll see what time permits LEt me know what you think... The first pic she's clean.. you'' have to excuse the mess on it in the latest ones, I had taken it out in the muck and snow the other day and caked it up good |

I luv rat bikes. First pic with stock swinger is nice. +4 1/2 seems a bit long. How's the top speed?

Cool to see you back at the work on the Z glen. Always love to see do it yourself projects. How do you like those shocks? |

Plus i'm going to be putting an air shifter, rev limiter and launch control on it soon and i decided to lengthen it instead of building wheely bars Quote:
the shocks are nice.. a bit overly stiff, but well dampened and a great ride (tried them on a old 70 at a friends house once, they rode good on that) NOw i just gotta paint the new one to match the bike and it'll be ready to ride :woot Last edited by turboglenn; 03-07-2009 at 11:12 PM. | ||

Well, to answer the first question, the bike has done 53 on my GPS...the second one.. It runs on a mix of pump gas and 110 leaded fuel but i have been thinking about rejetting for E85 since it does so well in my turbo car, but i'm afraid of it deteriorating my seals and such. The car has a complete custom fuel system I just took her out for the initial test ride (just woke up @ 9 from a nap I took at 3 ) And man o man was it a cool but scary ride! YOU can now experience the full force of it's excelleration with only a slight bit of leaning forward (it's a tad wet out so she spun through most of first and 2nd) Then after third was tapped out and i hit mid fourth I realized i had to stop in about 100 feet. Well, the kicker is i built a chain but no rear brake arm. (there's no smiley to show how big my eyes got when i remembered this LOL) So, I hit the front brake with the amount of force i needed to stop safely in time.. BIG MISTAKE, the front tire locked up for a good 10 feet and then as it was washing out i stuck my leg out and jammed the **** out of it (luckily not my bad leg) and saved it by downshifting and slightly using the front brake. This bike has done 53 MPH on my GPS ( 4 speed manual trans) so I imagine i was at about 40-45'ish when i locked up the front tire. And one good thing i can say is that the rim/tire is in perfect aliingment, no chain issues, no side to side difference, i'm pretty proud of myself since there's no "straight" sections on the entire stocker to be able to just put a piece of pipe on dead straight. I had to Jig it up with a rim mounted on it to keep it it aling as i welded it up. The new shocks feel amaxing, no bounce in the ride at all, you actually don't even feel like you're going fastthe bike is so stable Anyway, just thought i'd update my intial impression of the maiden voyage... later fellas! Z50king..yeah it's been a LONG time. I've ju8st had too much other stuff going on in my life to even touch a 50.. I haven't ridden either one in so long that a week ago both tires were dead flat s10 I wheely anything i can so as soon as there's a rear brake i'll start clutching them up if i can't just throttle and lean back, but I WILL wheely it |

hit new thread. you need smaller rear sprocket cause i think my bike will do 53 and the engine isn't as powerfull. also lets see what kinds of parts and mods you did to the engine? i'd like to know.

53 is faster than you think. With my XR100 I maxed out around 54mph, with a built 85cc motor tuned amazing I could do 56mph tapped out, and did 63.5mph down hill. With my new motor I'm sure 60mph is in the near future. I was out doing wheelies on my Z50R today with no rear brake. It is going to be such a change when I get my new swing arm and I finally have a brake rod. AHAHHAHA

yeah but he has 13:1 CR thats POWA to the ****'n max thats more than some mild lifan or 80 some cc engine this thing is BVH 146 cc 2mm feed 13.5:1 arm ripping beast that think could pull my 14/26 ratio like a sooffley !!! still am very curious as to the components of the engine build.

The engine started as a lifan 125 BVH motor. It has a cam from crower (not sure on specs) some mild port cleaning, the TB big bore to make it the 146 that it is, and of course a tad over 13:1 compression ratio. Other than that its stock in the crank and transmission area. I'm waiting to get a shift fix kit so i can put an air shifter on it and not miss gears, and then i'm going ro gear it for more top end (wanting to see 65 on the GPS) and hopefully add a bigger carb. IT's got a 25mm on it now and you can tell it's choking the top end down quite a bit |

Sweet bike man i like homebrew stuff. Now that you more room in back you can throw some bigger tires on or rim/tire if you wanna see more top speed.

I remember seeinga bigger bore piston on dr atv that was 13 CR you might just be able to hit 70mph honestly sounds like you have the power.

I plan to gear it for as much top end as i can and i'm going to run it on the 1/8th mile track in the summer while i'm there with my mobile welding business (just for kicks) BUt I need to figure out what countersprockets this motor takes and i also need to finish designing the air shift setup for it, and find a new place for the air tank since i'm no longer going to have wheely bars with the extended swinger. I"m still lookin for a 250cc 2 strok motor for my shifter cart build, this one will be insane, and all air shift and clutch as well like the last one (not sure if i posted it here...had a kawasaki 350 trippple streetbike motor in it Anyone have that link for the shift fix kit so the air shift doesnt' toss the tranny to false neautrals every time i launch it? It's been so long since i've played with my 50's that i've lost most of the info on where to get the parts i needed when i was big into them. Now my car is reigning supreme in the garage...trying to break the 500 daily driven horse mark this year I also have to say the KTM 65 muffler makes this thing sound the sweetest it ever had and it didn't rob much top end and gave backsome low end punch |
