big pete's Monkey build #2

Ever since selling my old Panda, I've been itching to get another one. I was lucky enough to find a plated Panda on PM a few months back. Some of you may recognize this bike - it's superness550's old ride. Ernesto's old bikes seem to find a way into my garage (I have his CRF50 as well)

Picked up some forks from shw911 and scored on a Daytona disk brake setup on Fleabay. Woot a roller!

I'm running a XR75 for now. I'll eventually upgrade to an aftermarket unit.

Re: big pete's Monkey build #2

After some long debating on what direction I wanted to go with the bike, I sold the G-Craft seat and put in an order with Motoshop Z. Ordered a set of Kitaco wheels (8x2.5" fr, 8x3.5" rear), Heidenau K75's, CF Posh ribbed seat, and a AC grab bar.

Seat, wheels, grab bar, and swingarm mocked up

*please excuse the crappy pics. I used my iPhone since I was too lazy to pull out the camera

your going to love that seat over the GCraft Pete. With some good amount of seat time on my GCraft ive developed and Iron ass complex. no bad seat not even a 2X4 for a seat bothers me now. However i may never be able to have kids the Doctors say.

Re: big pete's Monkey build #2

The seat is WAYYY more comfy than the G-Craft MX seat.

A month ago, I had the swingarm and fork uppers powder-coated in gloss black. After getting the parts back, I spent a few hours trying to bang out the old swingarm bushing outer sleeve (they pc'd another swingarm for me before and was able to bake it a low enough temp it didn't melt but it didnt work this time ). I ended up taking it over to a friends house to cut and chisel it off.

I finally got off my lazy ass to start putting the bike together. Spent the last two days slapping on parts and stealing the heart from my CRF. So here it is at 80% completion....

I still need to get some 280mm shocks, finish the wiring, bleed the brakes, shorten the kickstand, and some other little stuff. It should be up and running in a couple weeks

Hi Pete, is the front of the tank sitting on the rubbers instead of over the rubbers?
Like the breather tank

I'm really like the stance of your bike. What all is involved to get the XR75 swingarm to mount? Also did you modify the front fork springs to make it level?

Yup, I only put it on to give me a feel of how the bike will look. The gas tank will be the last thing I put on since I don't want to scratch it.

Thanks, it's a Kitaco catch can

Weld on a new brake tab and cut the inside of the pivot mounts a few mm so it fit's the frame. As for the forks, I cut 1" off the springs. When I get some 280mm shocks, it should even out the ride height.

Looks good, are you going to switch sides on your fork legs so the brake caliper is in the proper position?

Hey Pete bike is looking good. I have some Takegawa 280mm rear shocks if your interested. They have the gold springs and are semi adjustable for spring compression. Just in case you were interested.

There are actually a couple disc brake kits for the stock forks. Z can help you out if you're interested.

I'm still thinking about that. I'll see how it looks when everything is put together.

That's the look I'm going for . I cut the front fork springs by 1" since I didn't want to go through the hassle of cutting the forks or the legs. This way, I can go back to stock height fairly easily.

Re: big pete's Monkey build #2

your bike is lookin real fresh pete. I'm really diggin the seat and the tank. Looks like you have a lot more space between the motor and the front tire after choppin the springs down an inch.

Re: big pete's Monkey build #2

If somebody made a chrome hugger rear fender, it would fit this build well. Bike looks awesome, but it is a little low to the ground. Have you thought about running +1 fork springs and 305mm rear shocks? I agree the fork legs should be switched. It looks odd with the caliper in the front. What is in store for the CRF?
