Re: biggest engine in a hard tail?

You have life insurance? I'd run a Honda motor with an 88cc kit as 55mph is plenty for a non-suspended hardtail. Plus, if you keep it all honda, it actually will have some resale value. Pop in a Chinky engine and plan on the bike not holding value worth a stink.

to answer your question, I'd stick with an engine with a 69mm tall cylinder or shorter, which excludes the GPX engines.

Re: biggest engine in a hard tail?

I sugguest the same, I ran my 107cc engine which has 69mm tall cylinder and it worked great. I then threw in a 120cc w/78mm tall cylinder and the front wheel hit the head alot. I had delrin bushings in my forks also so they were tight, not slopply at all.

dont forget youll need to go semi-auto unless you want to sacrifice front or back brakes

Re: biggest engine in a hard tail?

i plan on using a k2 with a foot brake, and no using the back brake lever. This frame is also in rough condition, so i am not worried about resale. so a lifan 110 then?

Re: biggest engine in a hard tail?

My hardtail has a CT70 motor with an 88 kit and it's just about as fast as I wanna go with no rear suspension.

So I guess if you can't find hd springs for the front end , just bolt on a steering damper ??

Re: biggest engine in a hard tail?

actually thats a great idea, since it offers adjustable hydralic dampening, something out forks have none of, unless you count the resistance of the grease?
