Biggest motor in a 1970 Z50

Anyone know what the biggest motor that would fit in a 1970 z50 without hitting the front tire?

I believe a 117.

anything bigger and the cylinder is taller thus stuffing the head into the tire.

you can go bigger if you change out your fort end and increase the tripple offset.

the only difference is the cylinders
the current cylinder 63mm
a 90-110cc (up to aprox 124cc with mods) 69mm
124cc -150cc type motors are 78mm tall (can be much larger with mods)

That's what I was looking for. Thanks T-Bolt. I was hoping someone had put a 124 or 150 in a z50 and could say it cleared the front tire.

I too would like to see a pic of a large motor in a z50. I have more than a few and have been toying with doing this for while. If anybody has any pictures I would also appreciate it. Thanks for posting. Plus I would like a ride report.

Hardtail

what I'd like to see is a z50 hard tail with a same year ct70h engine and see if someone could pass it off as a rare option offered in that year

Re: Biggest motor in a 1970 Z50

I have a Lifan 123cc engine in my 1978 z50. It clears the front tire easy, but I am still working on front fender clearance. I'm interested in hearing from others who can help with petcock clearance problems and what kind of exhaust will work. Mine is a manual clutch.

The new TB exhausts should let it breathe. You may have to experiment with manifolds, adapters, belt sanders to clear the petcock. I had a VM26 on a Lifan 150 in my 79 Z, and it was tight. I ended up slotting the bolt holes to get the angle just right. I used a Tak long manifold. I've got a pretty short Kitaco if you're needing something.

Not exactly a 1970's Z50....................
My old Z50 Gorilla, running a tuned Honda Nice engine. I chose to use the Honda mudguard to keep the 'standard' look to the build , which was trimmed on the engine side and lowered very slightly using spacers so as to miss the nuts on the cylinder head !
Forks are standard Honda .
Wheels are 8" dia x 3.5"width running Kitaco 110/80 tyres. No issues with the engine hitting the head.
