| bike runs poorly after resto
After all the work to my 80 Z(PANDA cdi), it is down on power. I'm thinking its electrical....I'm in the process of cleaning the ground areas for the coil and engine mounts. I made my own harness from a Panda harness and now I do not have a green gound wire that used to connect to the coil stud/rectifier mount. I got rid of all light wiring and the rectifier and wired in a CR style kill switch. Spark seems white....not a fat blue. Do I not have the correct ground circuit??? Should the green wire from the kill switch go to the coil also??

For the price, I might buy this, in case it is bad. But i did notice the rectifier said 6 volt. As mentioned the wiring/engine is from a Panda with CDI. Will this CDI work??? eBay Motors: 2 CDI REV BOX HONDA XR50 CRF50 XR 50 CRF 125CC PITBIKE (item 180221205475 end time Mar-11-08 20 32 PDT) Last edited by allmakesmx; 03-10-2008 at 05:22 PM. |

ok, cleaned all ground areas (engine mounts and coil mounting area) of paint. Added dielectric grease to all areas; cleaned and checked connections; all good. It starts and runs great, but will not rev out....falls flat/peaks out. What should I do from here? I still think it's a ground issue...any ideas??

Its either a carb issue or you have it timed incorrectly is my guess.

| Re: bike runs poorly after resto Bike ran great two weeks ago before painting and re-installing motor. Timing was not touched, carb not touched and care was taken to not allow debris into carb. The ONLY thing I did change, was to eliminate uneeded wires from the Panda harness. As stated, I did notice a green ground wire is not used that was connected to the coil mounting stud. Should I add a ground back in??? Maybe coil is not properly grounded??? Spark seems week - white in color; not a nice blue. Please help!!!!!

I think fatcaaaaaaat is on it....fuel delivery or lack thereof.....have you tried anything like putting the choke partially or fully on as it flattens out to see if there is a change? What kind of air cleaner are you running? Any restrictions in the airbox? Mice moved in while you were away? I would agree that there needs to be a decent ground to your chassis as well. |

Ok....as of today: Bike runs good, but flattens out when pushed hard. It used to pull hard, but seems almost stock on the top end now. Bottom end clean and crisp. I moved the needle down to the third notch from top (Shengway 20mm), it was at 2nd notch. No better(ran good before like this). I've played with the air screw till I'm blue and can't find a sweet spot. I've tried switching CDI units to eliminate that as a problem, no different. I've done a hot shutdown to check plug-----a little black, but I think it always was (when it ran good). And yes, I tried a new plug, gapped at .028, no change. This is a 12V Jincheng Panda motor with 72cc bore kit. As noted, bike always ran good before...not sure what happened. I might check compression for kicks..what is a good # on these?? The carb tuning above was suggested in a old post with screw 1.5 to 1.75 out, runs better at 1 -1.25 out. Is the timing adjustable on this motor?? Gurus, please help!!!! ![]() ps. Should I still run the rectifier, or is that only for the accessories that I'm not running (lights, horn)???? Last edited by allmakesmx; 03-13-2008 at 04:29 PM. |
