Re: Bore kits

mini, if your motor is 6volt with points, with 3 down gearbox you will need a different piston and barrel as the 6v conrod is shorter,

if your motor is 12volt with cdi 3up gear box than the kit will work BUT the cam will be different, z50 cams are not roller bearing

Re: Bore kits

As SLAyER stated above, the '82 and newer engines have the long rod, and the CRF big bore kit will fit...BUT...as chuggz said, the bearing cam will NOT work in the Z50R head, and there is a loss of compression due to the bigger combustion chamber area of the Z50R head.

Re: Bore kits

i have a 1982 z50 motor 3 down and points also, and i purchased a 88cc hyper stage kit for it and the piston didnt come right to the end of the barrel because of the shorter rod, meaning i didnt have much compresion, luckily i bought a second hand crf50 motor that solved my issue

Re: Bore kits

your 85 motor is fine. it will bolt right up. just make sure he takes the cam as i think your z50 head uses journal type bearings instead of bearings like the crf

Re: Bore kits

honda partsmanual fiche z50r 85 z50 monkey gorilla

look here this bike is obviously 6 volt and the crf kit will not work they have a flatt top piston, you will need a different piston for the big bore kit to work on this motor to compensate for the shorter rod

Re: Bore kits

The 1982 and newer crank rod is the same length, whether or not it is in a Z50R, an XR50, or a CRF50. Being 6V or 12V has nothing to do with it. The only time 6V or 12V comes into play is when you are swapping complete crank assemblies. The 6V has a different left-side taper than the 12V cranks, and is 3/8" shorter on the stator side.
Also, the '93 (I think) and newer Z50R has the same roller bearing cam as the XR/CRF50s have.

Re: Bore kits

what were basically saying is get that five o kit and as long as you only keep the piston and cylinder youll be fine, the cam wont work for you. if i were you id check out DrATV OPERATES HERE and get there 99 dollar 88kit

Re: Bore kits

The TB88 kit for your bike will have a piston domed specifically to work with your stock head if you order this kit.
And, apparently, the same piston will work with the race head, as well, as shown here.
