Brembo 2-Pot vs Tokiko Dual Piston

I have just had great success mounting a Brembo 2 pot caliper on the rear of my honda CT70. Sure, I had to fabricate a custom bracket to clear my 190mm disc, but the result was worth it.

I now come to another decision...the front brake. I am running Fastace AS02 shocks on my CT70 and currently a Tokiko dual piston caliper from an RM85. That brake is a good brake no doubt but requires me to make a mounting bracket to make it correctly centered on the disc.

Now the question...since I have to fabricate a bracket anyway, and I have another Brembo 2-pot here (the brembo 4-pot won't clear my disc and wheel combo) do you think the Brembo will be superior in longevity and braking power over the Tokiko brake?

I'll get a pic. I ended up not using the metal you gave me. I made a bracket out of the metal but it proved too thin and I didn't like that it was flimsy. I fabbed it out of 1/4" 6061. It was thick enough i could drill and tap mounting holes as well. It really came out good. Someday I will take it back off and polish it up and dril lots of tiny holes in it.

Scan the one you made, and I'll send you a piece of 1/4" you can work on in your spare time, to keep the bike in service?

I have a big chuck of 1/4" so I don't need any more metal. Thanks for the offer. With my tools it took about and hour to fab this up. I really need to buy a Henrob2000 cutting torch. I could make this thing in 5 minutes if I had one of those.

Brembo, Tokiko, Nissin, 2-piston, 4-piston, whatever - they're all good and any one of them can develop enough grip to easily overpower the bike with those 10 inch tires. You're more than capable of machining another bracket so may as well use whichever one cranks your tractor. Your rear brake is already massive overkill, it's not possible to fit a front brake large enough to match. If you want the cylinders to last, purge the system of every last trace of the DOT3/4 piss and replace it with DOT5.

What Bob said. ^^^

Just be aware that on the knockoff brembos out of Thailand and Asia, some of the genuine Brembo parts do not fit as there are minor differences "I've been told".

Go with something you can get ongoing replacement pads and parts for.

And start posting more pictures.

The Brembo I am using is a takeoff from a 2003 Ducati so we should be good there. I did order up some Brembo knockoffs to see what I think of the quality compared to the originals and while the casting quality is definitely inferior, I have not determined anything else that would lead to to reason it would not make a suitable replacement.

The Goal, is to run the real Brembo's on my Green CT70 and keep the spoked wheels. These knockoff brembos will eventually be put on my Yellow CT unless I pony up and buy the Falcon Wheels I want.

Re: Brembo 2-Pot vs Tokiko Dual Piston

Maybe....maybe not. It is probably overkill on my green CT. It is configured for 1-up riding with a top speed of about 75mph. However, my Yellow CT is configured for 2-up riding (my wife and I do use this for 2-up) and has a top speed of at least 75mph...but is getting regeard so I predict we'll be in the 80's with that one.

Braking isn't all the important if you are running a 50mph top speed bike. My bike will cruise all day at 55-60 and top out on blasts close to 80. I want the stopping power.

Looks like the Tokiko will be going on the front because the brembo wont fit...it hits the spokes.

Not sure what we'll end up with, FirePops is the programmer. All I can do is read the print and work my elbows on the Series II. Might get a retrofitted Bridgeport so I don't get too scared.

Sorry for the hijack, fatz
