Carb Cleaning...aluminum has black soot now..

I have a carb from my 1991 CT70 and it was really dirty. I dropped it in my new can of "Parts Cleaner" overnight and came back the next morning. Sure enough, it was clean of all the gunk, but not it has this black film all over it that is a PIA to remove. I imagine this is the result of the chemical reaction on the aluminum. Looks like the same soot I get when dipping aluminum in Lye to remove annodizing and paint.

Is there some easy way to get rid of this soot? Another spray, dip, or otherwise?
