I'd only use the frame and toss the rest in the garbage. For a full custom bike, people are better off purchasing a 1979-1981 Z50 frame on ebay and build one from scratch. The frames cost under $40 on ebay. Anything pre-1981, you can get a title from its-titles.com and you'll be good to go.

I'm building a 1976 frame. The only downside is they take a different tank, seat and fenders and the top shock mount is a really long bolt. However, with anything else, they can be modified. There are more JDM parts available for the 1979 and newer frames due to the frame being exactly the same one that honda still uses today even for their 2005 Monkeys. |

Actually got a Pitbull new up to the shop up here. Seems like a decent machine, compared to say, a 'Jackass 110' and their ilk. Once the roads clear up I'll pester for a test ride. :P

The frames cost under $40 on ebay. Anything pre-1981, you can get a title from its-titles.com and you'll be good to go. any frame with numbers will work pre-1981? how can you determine what frame was for legal road use meaning be able to register it after getting the title from its-titles.com .... how can some one make sure is not stamped off road use only?? I am asking you guys because I am sure what to look for?? it would cool to be able to register one!!! |

So, if you want to get one registered, start it out as a 49cc and register it as a moped! Again, laws differ by state but anything pre 1981 is going to be a whole lot easier then post 1981. With that said, the most parts will be available for the 1979-1981 Z50 frames. Metal fenders, all the cool Z50 seats, swingers, forks, etc. It's all a matter of preference, and I like the earlier Z50's but you are limited on 1 chrome rear fender and the seat unless you want to custom fabricate your own parts. I'm doing a mix of both on my 1976. | |

Adding to this, If I were to build a 1979-1981 Z50 frame, here's what I would do: Source the following parts: 1. Frame 2. Complete JDM 12V Honda Monkey Wiring harness with the CDI, voltage regulator and controls. 3. Weld on a battery box and side cover mounts onto the frame 4. Weld on a mount for the rear footbrake switch. The rest of the parts are of your choosing and you don't need a Honda Monkey wiring harness if you don't plan on running lights. Here's my 1976 project (frame is out for paint as we speak) that I converted over to 12V, and am using a JDM Z50 J1 taillamp bracket and a 2000 Honda Chrome Gorilla Headlamp bucket, and a 2005 CRF50 motor that will be modified so I can use the neutral safety switch and probably will go with a standard 88cc race head kit. Stock Honda set, Showa Shocks, Daytona swingarm, chromed wheels, JC front fork, right custom side cover, factory left side cover, adding a modified battery box and custom wiring. Honda Monkey bars and triple clamp. Polished Aluminum Custom Tank, Titanium exhaust. Believe it or not, it's been a fairly cheap project as my projects go. |
