My Mood: | CL70 I picked up today
Needs some work, but a lot of good stuff on it. Gonna be my summer ride, since I've little chance of getting any of the other half-dozen projects on the road this year...

Glad you decided on this. What are you going to do with it? As an FYI, I have a set of triple trees and SL70 Forks that would go really swell on this for you. It will lower the stance just a hair. As an FYI the CL70 tranny is a bit beefier than that CT70H and SL/XL versions and shifts all up or all down...I can't remember. My buddy has been running a CL tranny in a 120cc build for two years without issue. I happen to also have a REALLY nice set of complete original wheels with a 90/90 on the front and a 110/80 on the back with very low miles. Also have a really neat cafe seat if you are so inclined that is a mount and go operation. For motor options, you can stick a china 125 block in there but I think you'll have clearance issues with a YX160 and the front tire. |

I dunno what to do, yet. He power washed it with the top off, so the no-muss top swap & ride is out. I was thinking of squeezing the YX201 in, but it looks wrong. A Lifan 150 maybe? Prolly keep it Honda, and mellow. I wanna try to get the Mrs on a scoot this summer, and I don't need too much more than a decent 104-117 to cruise the neighborhood. I don't think this bike should have the fins running the "wrong" way, either. Seems to have a RR wheel bearing issue anyway, that I can address when I fix the flat rear. Turn signal bracket's welded to the fender on one side, so I may hunt up those. I'll keep your wheels in mind if the hub ends up bad. Not sure I want it lower. My size makes even this "big" mini look pretty petite Encouraging news on the trans. I'd been thinking I'd swap in my 4-up ATC70 one.

My Mood: | Re: CL70 I picked up today Well... It doesn't match any of my current tutu's, so I will have to get a new riding outfit. I'm thinking the new look will be "Tucked, Taped & Terrific". No?

My dog has it down pretty good. Probably from licking his own balls. |

Nice find Terry!!!! Working on my street legal 1965 S65 Sport. I love those CL's! Nice lines but way underpowered. Won't be problem for a man with your talents! She'll be way quicker than stock! Good luck with it!!

Thanks! It's big enough where I feel like I should be able to do some distance on it. Ain't gonna be Razzo-riffic looking, but it WILL end up with some Firepower

I found that the CL70 had too soft of a suspension front and rear and had a rather uncomfortable seating position due to the seat going up in the back. For a big guy like you, you are going to need to upgrade that suspension if you plan on going faster than 45mph. I am a BIG fan of swapping the rear wheel on these. I did it on a S65 too..I got an SL70 rear wheel or an ST90 rear wheel and put a 120/80-14 wheel on the back and kept the 17" with a 90/90 on the front. It felt MUCH more stable at high speed....remember my CL70 could do over 80mph. |

Re-springing for a 130kg rider is almost a given, since it feels set for a 130lb one I may be in the market for a rear wheel anyway, since it's been ridden with a bad bearing or hub and wore the edge of the drum to a point, so I'll consider the 14 swap. I have some XR75 ones for a mock up.

Awesome find keep posting up all the mods/restoring you doing. BTW i just finished building the 114 motor with that super high comp dratv piston old style honda head ported and that big torque cam they sell too. 65mph is achievable I was shocked. It almost gave my buddy's gpx140 a run for its money with the tm24 on it. It definitely has mellow power but when you need it its there. I know you got a million 49.5 cranks and that piston and cylinder you should plop that on there and BOOM! you will be shreading the neighbor hood. haha. A 117 would be really cool too tho. |
