Clark Plastic Tank Question

I'm contemplating buying a Clark plastic tank for my K6 project because I'm having trouble finding a decent tank.

Does anybody know if paint will hold on a Clark tank, or will the fumes gas out and bubble the paint? Anybody paint one and have it for a while with no problems?

Thanks!

Any way you look at it, painting plastics, especially a gas tank, is a hit or miss situation. I have painted plastic tanks. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

The only paint I've ever had any luck with on plastics has been Krylon Fusion. Prep the tank by cleaning/degreasing it as best you can. When you're done... Clean in again. I've tried slightly scuffing the plastic after cleaning, but my results were not conclusive as I'm not sure if it made a difference. Multiple light coats are the key for coverage. Allow at least a day of more between coats. And when you finish your final coat.... Let the painted part sit for at least a week. It seems that this paint takes forever to cure.

I've heard of some people having good luck with a poly automotive paint with extra flex additive... Can't comment there as have no personal experience with it...

I wish I had a cure-all solution for you but from my experience, painting plastic tanks is a crap shoot... You may roll that lucky "7" and have no problems, or you may hit the nasty snake eyes and end up with a mess... That being said, it wouldn't stop me from trying it again, however I know the risks I'm taking...

Good luck on your project...
