This ought to get you started, at least: Classic / Vintage Honda page There were lots of models available in other countries with different designations than we had, aside from the Dax/CT and Monkey/Z50. Another place to look would be: search for a thread called something like "Jokerio's mini collection." This member seems to have every minibike in the known universe, some still in their original plastic and packing crates. Lots of pictures there. One bike, called (I think) a Motocompo, folds up into a square shape that looks a lot like a portable generator. That one confused me for a bit. I think the SS50 you mentioned is pretty much what we had as the CL70, but with a 50cc top end. Some had pedals and some had 5 gears. At least for a short time. I recently asked about SS50s; search for that thread because a couple European members responded with some interesting links, info and pictures. Nielspbr was one of the guys, I think. There were some others that looked like a frame similar to a CL/SS but with a low pipe; I think they were called CDs. And others... |

I've never seen anything about a CL50 except in those ads, but CL70s were definitely sold here. I rode one I couldn't quite afford to buy last year and liked it a lot. Then missed one I could afford to buy--several months later--by about a week. Maybe someday. I have never seen a CL90 in person, or an SL90, but both models were available here for a short time, short I think because not long after the upright-cylinder 100 and 125 began being offered as the CL and SL powerplant. A neighbor used to have a CL100 in that candy topaz color you see on early softtail Z50s. I think it was about a '72 or '73; not sure. I think the upright 100/125 would have been a sportier engine than the horizontal 90, or maybe it was just that it looked more "big bike." |
